Final Fantasy 7 Remake devs have revealed that Tifa was the hardest character to create a battle style for.

Square Enix has posted a brand new developer interview blog to their official website (opens in new tab), this time focusing on Final Fantasy 7 Remake’s fifth chapter with those who helped create the RPG. In the game itself, this is a chapter where the player can control a variety of characters in battle, including Cloud, Tifa, Barrett, and Aerith.

When asked if Tifa was a difficult character to balance for the remake, Teruki Endo, battle director for Final Fantasy 7 Remake, confirmed as much. “It was comparatively easy to differentiate Cloud, Barret, and Aerith,” Endo explains. “But we had to think extremely hard about what defining characteristics we should give Tifa,” the battle director continued.

However, Endo believes Square Enix ultimately succeeded in giving added depth to Tifa in the remake’s combat system, by tying her abilities to the ‘Burst’ system. This core pillar of Final Fantasy 7 Remake’s combat governs how much damage enemies can take before they’re stunned, and Tifa has key abilities that massively boost the amount of stagger damage dealt to an enemy.

In our Final Fantasy 7 Remake review from 2020, we heaped praise upon the remake’s overhauled combat system, writing that the combat was “satisfyingly varied” thanks chiefly to each character feeling distinctly different and entertaining to play. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, the sequel to Remake and part two of a planned trilogy, should keep the party-based combat going when it arrives next year in Winter 2023.

Here’s why the Final Fantasy 7: Crisis Core Reunion remaster is a must-play ahead of Rebirth launching near the end of next year.

Overwatch 2‘s latest set of Beta patch notes target Tanks specifically.

Earlier today on July 15, Blizzard published a brand new list of patch notes for Overwatch 2 over on the game’s official website (opens in new tab). This new patch seems to be aimed at Tank characters in particular, as Doomfist, Orisa, and Junker Queen have all seen changes to some degree.

For example, Junker Queen’s Commanding Shout ability has seen its radius reduced from 20 to 15 meters, and Orisa’s movement speed with the Javelin Spin ability has been increased from 40 to 50 percent. Elsewhere, Doomfist’s Rocket Punch ability now deals damage to all enemies knocked back by the ability, instead of only just the first target hit.

Additionally, Junker Queen’s Rampage ability has seen its radius reduced from six to five meters, and Orisa’s Fortify ability now disables critical damage. Finally, Doomfist’s Power Block ability has seen its speed penalty while blocking reduced from 50 to 35 percent, and the minimum damage mitigated to empower Rocket Punch has now been decreased from 100 to 90 damage.

Tanks might be the broad focus of this new patch for Overwatch 2’s Beta, but the patch has also hit Symmetra, Sojourn, and Zenyatta. The former has seen the Teleporter ability cooldown reduced from 16 to 12 seconds, while the latter has had his overall shield health reduced from 175 points to 150. Meanwhile, Sojourn’s Railgun fire rate has been reduced from 15 to 14 shots per second.

This is actually the second Overwatch 2 Beta patch this week, as a few days ago, Mercy’s Guardian Angel “super jump” ability was finally fixed with a new update. Elsewhere in the same patch, Moira actually got a full rework, seeing her Biotic Orb ability actually turned into separate abilities, each with different cooldown periods.

Check out our full Overwatch 2 beta impressions to see what we made so far of Blizzard’s upcoming sequel.

Searching for Phantasmal Conch locations in Genshin Impact? In Version 2.8, the Conch collectible from last year’s Summertime Event makes a comeback. Although the Conch locations are different, the idea is still the same: collect enough Conches on the Golden Apple Archipelago event map, and you get a character outfit for free.

This may sound a little confusing, but the Phantasmal Conches (including both Imaging and Echoing Conches) are part of the Resonating Visions event, which takes place in the time-limited Golden Apple Archipelago region. There are 20 Conches in total, but only 14 of them are currently available. We’ll update this guide as soon as the remaining Conch locations are unlocked.

Collect Conches for a free Fischl outfit

Let’s talk rewards first, shall we? If you find at least 14 Conch locations, you’ll be rewarded with a new outfit for Fischl. This reward can be collected in the Resonating Visions event menu. Don’t forget to claim the other goodies as well: Talent Level-Up Materials, Character Level-Up Materials, Weapon Enhancement Materials, a lot of Mora, and a total of 320 Primogems.

It takes 20 Phantasmal Conches to collect the full reward, but only 16 to claim both the Fischl outfit and Primogems.

How to find Phantasmal Conch locations in Genshin Impact

Genshin Impact Conches look like… well, normal conches. However, they do give off a faint glow. It’s either blue (Echoing Conches) or purple/orange (Imaging Conches). Most importantly, a white Conch icon will pop up on the mini map as soon as you get close enough.

Every Conch has a unique name. If you want to check which Conches you’re missing, open the “Sojourner’s Song” and “The Photographer’s Words” tabs in the Resonating Visions event menu. Whether the Conch is an Echoing or an Imaging One, doesn’t really matter.

Genshin Impact Conch locations: Broken Isle

Genshin Impact Conch locations 2.8 golden apple archipelago

We’ll start with the Conch locations on Broken Isle, the upper left part of the Golden Apple Archipelago map. This map also includes the central island (location 5). All of these locations are at sea level, so no need for climbing.

  • Conch 1: Secret Mission Log III. On a rock next to the beach.
  • Conch 2: Secret Mission Log IV. At the mountain’s base, on a grassy slope.
  • Conch 3: Secret Mission Log V. On a small rock right next to the water.
  • Conch 4: Ongoing Mission Image II. Close to the beach, beneath the large wooden staircase.
  • Conch 5: Central Camp Image III. At the center of the camp, on top of a wooden box. Naturally, you need a Waverider to reach it.

Genshin Impact Conch locations: Twinning Isle

Twinning Isle is situated in the upper right corner of the map. Here are the Conch locations:

  • Conch 1: Secret Mission Log I. Close to the beach, on a grassy slope.
  • Conch 2: Secret Mission Log II. Climb the lower rock on the west side (the previous Conch location is a good starting point). The Conch is on the “bridge” between the twin peaks. If you walk from the top of the smaller peak towards the higher one, the Conch is lying in the grass on your left hand side.
  • Conch 3: Ongoing Mission Image I. On a slightly smaller island, close to the beach. Use the Waverider to get there.

Genshin Impact Conch locations: Minacious Isle

To find Minacious Isle, go to the lower left corner of the map.

  • Conch 1: Secret Mission Log VIII. Below the large rock, near the beach. On top of a small rock.
  • Conch 2: Ongoing Mission Image IV. It’s near the top of the circular opening in the middle of the mountain. To reach it, climb the rocks and then walk over the massive roots. If you follow this path, you will see the Conch lying in front of you, on a small ridge just below the island’s peak.
  • Conch 3: Central Camp Image I. At the top of Minacious Isle.

Genshin Impact Conch locations: Pudding Isle

Genshin Impact Conch locations 2.8 golden apple archipelago

Pudding Isle is in the lower right corner of the Golden Apple Archipelago map.

  • Conch 1: Secret Mission Log VI. Lying on the beach, can’t miss this one.
  • Conch 2: Secret Mission Log VII. Also lying on the beach, southside of the island.
  • Conch 3: Ongoing Mission Image III. Eastern peak of Pudding Isle, next to the Teleport Waypoint. The best way to climb up is by starting in the middle, and then using the roots to reach the more difficult ledges.

That’s every Genshin Impact Imaging and Echoing Conch location for now. Stay tuned for the map update!

The best PS5 games list has been pretty static of late as we’ve entered into the realms of slow summer months for game releases. However, with plenty of hotly-anticipated upcoming PS5 games dropping in the next few months, we imagine that this list may not look the same for long.

The quality of the PS5 launch games that arrived with the console back in November 2020 definitely helped kick off the best PS5 games list with aplomb, and has been brilliantly aided by the quality of the PS5 exclusives released so far.

While finding any PS5 stock is still quite the challenge, this collection will do nothing apart from make you more focused to get your hands on one. Whether you want a shot of pure, extra-strength joy from Sackboy: A Big Adventure, a demon challenge from Demon’s Souls, or to feel like a hero in Spider-Man: Miles Morales you’ll find all that and more on this list of the very best PS5 games that are out now, including a good selection of the PS5 launch games.

15. Demon’s Souls

Demon's Souls PS5

Dying horribly at the hands of a soulless monster has never looked so good. The 2009 cult classic, Demon’s Souls, has been completely remade for the 4K age, and is one of the best looking games on the new PS5. The motion capture, textures, and audio might all be new, but the hardcore action is utterly faithful to the original, offering the same brutal learning curve and sense of monumental achievement with every victory. FromSoftware’s original formula has been respected, but there are some new tweaks too, new items, armor and weapons to covet, a change to the amount of healing grass you can carry, and new consumable Grains that offer buffs as you adventure. Whether you’re a veteran warrior or visiting the land of Boletaria for the first time, there’s something special to discover in this iconic adventure.

14. Kena: Bridge of Spirits

Kena: Bridge of Spirits review

Kena: Bridge of Spirits is a magical little adventure that’s sure to be a hit with anyone who loves a good platformer with layered combat elements and has a penchant for anything even vaguely adorable. You play as the titular Kena, a spirit guide who has arrived at a village to help those trapped there. You’ll be aided by some of the spirits themselves, but also by the soot sprite-esque Rot, who are not only some of the cutest game companions ever but also incredibly useful for solving puzzles and pulling off some killer moves in battle.

13. Astro’s Playroom

Astro's Playroom

Diving into this little toy box of technical wizardry is a no brainer, it comes installed on your PS5 for free. Don’t discount it just because it’s free though, as well as being a great way to get to know the DualSense’s new adaptive triggers and haptic feedback, it’s a charming game in its own right. Pilot a glider, climb like a monkey, shoot ball guns in space, fight monsters and find collectibles, and enjoy some cheeky nods to PlayStation history along the way. Explore and you’ll find artefacts like UMDs and the original PlayStation, puzzle pieces, and collect coins to have fun with a gachapon machine. It’s a great showcase for the machine’s new technical highlights, and gives you something to do while the next game on your play list downloads.

12. Death’s Door

Death's Door

Death’s Door is a wonderful blend of elements from games like The Legend of Zelda, Kingdom Hearts, and the entire Metroidvania genre. You play as a soul-reaping crow, who is tasked with gathering some of the hardest to reap souls to date. Thus, you’ll have to navigate an isometric world filled with beautiful, bizarre creatures and landscapes. With boss encounters that will hex you and stay with you, this is not one to be missed. The graphics are incredible too, with a lovely touch of Studio Ghibli to its design and characters.

11. Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy

We didn’t think it was possible for Eidos Montreal to do its own take on the infamous Marvel space pirates, but with Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy it has done just that. You play as Star-Lord, who is leading an early version of the Guardians, just a few years into the crew’s life together. In this version, they’ve all just survived an intergalactic war, with Groot, Rocket, Gamora, and Draxx all coming with their own tales of loss and woe, with almost alt-history backstories. At its heart, this single-player adventure is about learning to operate as a team, both in exploration and combat, and realising that friends can be just as close as family.

10. Hitman 3

Hitman 3

The final entry in this arc of the Hitman story, Agent 47 is the most inventive in the series to date, where anything and everything can be used in your assassination mission. It’s hugely entertaining, with excellent level design, and locales that’ll take you from Dubai to the UK’s Dartmoor in one massive, murderous adventure.

9. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

Ubisoft

The historical murder series is back with a bang with Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, putting your in the fur-lined shoes of Viking clan leader Eivor. Build a new settlement in ye olde England, bring down kings to forge alliances, and travel with your longship crew to plunder the towns and monasteries of Mercia. This will stand as one of the great entries in the Assassin’s Creed series, thanks to complicated hero Eivor, the brutal combat, and the wealth of customisation options that cover everything from your fighting style to your face tattoo. There’s rarely been a better match for the universe’s lore than the Viking legends either, so you can expect some very interesting tangents as you explore the mysteries of Anglo Saxon England, try to appease the pagan gods, and go on special dream quests. There’s a reason the world has been obsessed with Vikings since they first went pillaging, and Valhalla only makes us love them more.

8. Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut

Ghost of Tsushima: Iki Island

The PS5 release of the Ghost of Tsushima is well worth diving into, even if you’ve played it through on PS4. The PS5 version upgrades the game to offer 4K graphics running at 60fps, wonderful DualSense features, and 3D Audio support. The Director’s Cut itself, adds the new Ghost of Tsushima: Iki Island expansion, which is a fantastic new side-story set in an entirely fresh location. You’ll learn more about hero Jin, meet new friends (and foes), and be able to engage with some new side content – including adorable critters. It’s quickly solidified itself as one of the best PS5 games.

7. Sackboy: A Big Adventure

Sackboy: A Big Adventure

A perfect platformer packed with delights and surprises, and absolutely stuffed with charm. In Sackboy: A Big Adventure our titular hero visits different planets – think themes like jungle or the sea floor – to foil the plans of the evil Vex (voiced by Richard E Grant) and has lots of fun along the way. As well as looking like a party in a craft store the game is packed with ingenious level design, giving you sticky feet so you can walk up walls, levels that move in time to music, and fun tools like boomerangs and grappling hooks. As a bonus you can collect bells in the game to buy new outfits for your Sackboy, from cute tigers to mix and match punk witch mountaineers. There’s no part of this game that hasn’t been built with buckets of love and a cheery smile, and it shows in every secret corner, ingenious enemy and piece of fluff. Whether you’re getting it for your child, or your inner child, it’ll make your day.

6. Returnal

Returnal

Returnal certainly won’t be a game for everyone, but there’s no denying how well it demonstrates the technological and graphical capabilities of the PS5. This challenging roguelike looks – and feels – absolutely fantastic. Between the haptic feedback bringing the rain of Atropos to your very fingertips through the controller, or the visual splendor of neon against a monotone world, it’s all utterly gorgeous – if a little bleak at times. Like other roguelikes, the moment you die in Returnal, the loop begins again, with our heroine Selene trying to figure out exactly what’s going down on this alien planet. Gain new upgrades, discover new weapons and alien tech, and work your way through the various biomes to reveal some of the truths behind the loops.

5. Elden Ring

Elden Ring

Elden Ring is one of those games where if you’re in, you’re in. This is the best game coming out of FromSoftware since the original Dark Souls, taking its particular brand of gameplay to an open world for the first time. It refines, it evolves, and it tweaks the formula to make sure that suffering in its very specific masochistic style has never been much fun.

4. Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart - Ratchet riding a rail into a rift portal

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is right near the top of our best PS5 games for two reasons. Not only is it the best Ratchet and Clank adventure yet, with our heroic duo taking us on an utterly memorable journey with some new friends, but it is also a powerful demonstration of what the PS5 can do. Doctor Nefarious has been at it again, stealing the Dimensionator and ripping holes between dimensions. Ratchet and Clank are split up, flung across the universe through time and space, and enlist the help of fellow Lombax, Rivet, to help stitch the universe back together. Flying through time rifts is utterly seamless, with not a loading screen in sight, and the haptic feedback on the DualSense, along with those adaptive triggers, are used brilliantly. Ratchet and Clank has never looked, played, or been better.

3. Deathloop

Deathloop

Arkane’s latest is another triumph, with Deathloop offering up a murderous puzzle box for players to break open and figure out. Launching as a timed PS5 exclusive, Deathloop is one of those rare games that surprises you, playing out nothing like any of us expected. Lose yourself trying to figure out the mystery of how to kill eight targets in a single day, where all move around the world of Black Reef living their lives – and rudely not just staying put so you can kill them. The more you play and experience the loop, the more you learn, and the more you understand about this strange little time-looping world.

2. Spider-Man: Miles Morales

Spider-Man: Miles Morales

The next generation of Spider-Man, both technically and narratively, is packed with comic book adventure, heart and soul, and plenty of that oh so satisfying swinging through New York. As the attention switches from Peter Parker to Miles Morales, so does the action, with focus moving to his home turf of Harlem, and a whole new set of teen turned superhero problems. Miles has some new powers this time around, like the bioelectric venom, and the haptic feedback of the DualSense makes them even more satisfying to dish out to criminals and ne’er-do-wells. Spider-Man: Miles Morales manages the tricky task of delivering a story that Venom punches you right in the heart, but is also a place that you want to escape to after a long day in the real world. Thanks mainly to Miles’ charm, and that sweet swinging, Spider-Man: Miles Morales pulls it off so well you’ll wish Peter Parker a happy retirement without even a tear in your eye.

1. Horizon Forbidden West

Screenshots from Horizon Forbidden West running on PS5

Horizon Forbidden West is such a confident sequel. It’s not reinventing the wheel – it’s another game about saving a world filled with giant robot dinosaurs – but it doesn’t have to. Aloy’s story is just as compelling as the first game, but with more human elements, interesting new character additions, and tonnes more personality than before. It’s got some of the best side quests in the gaming space right now too, and yes, even more robo-saurs. Plus, it’s an absolutely stunning showcase of the power of PS5.

After the roster of Fortnite characters recently expanded with the addition of Evie and Panther, players are now looking for Fortnite NPCs who sell fancy armaments to tick off a weekly assignment. Helpfully you have plenty of choices for where you can go to purchase an Exotic weapon from a character, as Cuddle Team Leader at Rave Cave, Kyle at Washout Wharf, Sunbird or Moonhawk at The Temple, The Visitor at Launchpad, or any of the four Joneses at The Joneses will offer this transaction to you. Not only will this tick a task off your list, but you’ll also receive a powerful weapon to get a competitive edge over your opponents.

Fortnite Grapple Gloves

Fortnite Grapple Gloves

Swing your way around the island with Fortnite Grapple Gloves from one of these locations.

Although characters are no longer involved with distributing Fortnite quests, it still pays to know their locations as they’ll give you useful items for free when you meet, as well as selling services such as fighting alongside you as your personal bodyguard or forecasting the next storm circle to give you a head start over your opponents. If you want to benefit from their abilities, then you’ll need to know where to find these 29 different NPCs. We should also highlight that currently Fortnite Darth Vader isn’t on the official characters list, so follow our separate guide if you want to take them on in battle.

Fortnite characters accept payment in the form of Fortnite gold bars, which you can spend with them on weapons, items, and useful intel. Because the world of Fortnite is so large you might not stumble upon them by accident, so follow our guide to all of the Fortnite characters locations and you’ll be meeting up with these elusive NPCs in no time.

Fortnite Characters locations

Fortnite Characters map

(opens in new tab)

There are currently 29 Fortnite characters to find around the island, and you can keep track of the ones you’ve met so far by visiting the Collections tab on the Quests screen. They all only spawn in one specific location each which makes them easier to find, so we’ve marked all of the Fortnite characters locations we’ve encountered on the map. Bear in mind that when characters are bunched up in an area (such as Shroom Chalet or The Joneses) then they may not all spawn in the same match, and if another player has already hired or eliminated them then that will remove the character from the location.

You’ll know when you’re close to one as you’ll see a speech bubble icon on your map, as well as on your screen above their head which you can see through walls. Interact with them and the first time you meet you’ll add them to your Collection, with a confirmation appearing on screen. This list shows where all of the Fortnite characters can be discovered:

  • 01) Lil’ Whip – Coney Crossroads (Sofdeez on the east side)
  • 02) Rustler – Shifty Shafts (east side)
  • 03) The Paradigm – Seven Outpost II (northwest of Logjam Lumberyard)
  • 04) The Scientist – Synapse Station (Battle Bus workshop)
  • 05) The Origin – Seven Outpost III (northeast of The Daily Bugle)
  • 06) The Visitor – Launchpad (east of Sanctuary)
  • 07) Sunbird or Moon Hawk – The Temple (northeast of The Daily Bugle)
  • 08) Guaco – Greasy Grove (behind the counter inside Tacos)
  • 09) Mancake – Rocky Reels (storage building on the east side)
  • 10) Bao Bros – Condo Canyon (Dumpling store on the west side)
  • 11) The Imagined – Seven Outpost V (west of Rave Cave)
  • 12) Cuddle Team Leader – Rave Cave (platform by north entrance)
  • 13) Stash’d – Chonker’s Speedway (workshop on northwest side)
  • 14) Haven – Ridgeline Ranger Station (west of Coney Crossroads)

Fortnite geysers are found in the area around Reality Falls, and these fissures intermittently eject water and steam to launch you high into the air if you happen to be stood on top of it at the time. Once the eruption has sent you skyward, you can redeploy your glider to get a better view of what’s around you, or simply float away to a new area of Fortnite while covering a decent amount of distance in the process. They may look quite violent, but are actually perfectly harmless, so give them a go if you’re nearby.

These Fortnite geysers also feature in several of the weekly assignments, with the initial one being to launch into the air using three of them. More recently, a task was added that involved using a Fortnite Baller, a Fortnite zipline, and a geyser in a single match, so if you’re already in the area to ride an eruption then it makes sense to continue on to Rave Cave afterwards to take in the other items as well. We’ve got all of the Fortnite geyser locations around Reality Falls for you here, so you can easily tick off any quests that require them.

Pick weeds near Fortnite Reality Seeds for another challenge.

Fortnite geysers are only found in the western section of the Fortnite map that’s full of giant, glowing mushrooms. It’s also where you can find Reality Falls and Greasy Grove. There are 12 geysers in this area, but you’ll find seven of them clustered together in Peril Pass, making that your best spot for completing this easy challenge, and the nearby Reality Tree has lots of loot for you to grab later. Use the above map and the information below to help you get to any of the Fortnite geyser locations:

  1. Peril Pass: You’ll find seven geysers all very close together in this landmark area, which is just west of Reality Falls
  2. Reality Falls north: There’s a geyser out on a small rocky island in the lake area fed by several waterfalls that’s just north of the Reality Tree.
  3. Reality Falls south: South of Reality Falls and across the road, you’ll find a geyser towards the top of a cliff.
  4. Shelly Shoals: There’s a geyser west-southwest of Greasy Grove around a large cliff formation on the west coast by a landmark called Shelly Shoals.
  5. Displaced Depot: You can find a geyser east-northeast of the Displaced Depot landmark building. It’s on top of the rock formation that looks like a giant shark head.
  6. Scratch Pad: Go southwest from the Scratch Pad landmark to find a geyser on top of a hill surrounded by trees.

From Reality Falls, you can head north to Rave Cave where you can find the Fortnite wind tunnel at The Screwballer. You’ll need to hop into a Baller vehicle and get inside the tunnel to cross off one of the Week 2 Fortnite quests. While you’re in the area, look out for some Fortnite Runaway Boulders, which can be dislodged using your Baller for another challenge.

A leaker has claimed a wealth of knowledge surrounding Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

Yesterday on July 12, Twitter account Centro Leaks (opens in new tab) provided a slate of leaked information for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, slated to launch later this year. As DualShockers (opens in new tab) points out, the Twitter account has provided accurate information pertaining to the Pokemon games over the last few years, particularly on Pokemon Legends Arceus.

You might recall that Pokemon Scarlet and Violet fans previously speculated that the new world of the Gen 9 game was in fact based on Spain. The Pokemon Company has never commented on this speculation, but according to Centro Leaks, the new world in question is actually called Paldea.

Now for some slightly wackier leaks. The leaker claims that Pokemon will time travel in Scarlet and Violet, but the player character won’t, and that there’ll be a new “gimmick” similar to that of Mega Evolutions featured in Pokemon Sword and Shield. This has lead some to speculate that the new “gimmick” mentioned here will involve Pokemon time travelling.

Finally, it’s claimed that there’ll be over 400 Pokemon in the PokeDex featured in both new games, and that Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will feature three cities and nine towns in total. Already, newcomers to the PokeDex have gained fame with fans online, including Lechonk the pig, and new starter Sprigatito to name but two.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet launches later this year on November 12. Oh, and they both star conventionally attractive professors that the internet is already obsessing over

Check out our Pokemon Scarlet and Violet PokeDex guide for a full look over all the confirmed creatures so far.

Forza Horizon 5 Car Mastery is a key part of progressing as it allows you to unlock special perks and rewards just from driving your cars. As you drive around Mexico and the Horizon Festival, you’ll perform daring Skill Chains that get you Skill Points. These can then be spent on unlocking perks for any Forza Horizon 5 cars in your garage, which can unlock instant XP or Credits (CR), Wheelspins, and even entirely new cars. Crucially, some of these perks improve your Skill Chains, therefore allowing you to earn more Skill Points for your ever-growing car collection. There’s a lot more to know about Car Mastery and Skill Points in Forza Horizon 5, so we’ve got it all covered here.

What is Car Mastery in Forza Horizon 5?

Forza Horizon 5 Car Mastery is a perk system that’s used on every single car in the game and allows you to unlock permanent and temporary upgrades for individual cars. These upgrades usually include improvements to their ability to generate points for Skill Chain tricks, one-off instant rewards – XP, CR, #Forzathon Points, or Wheelspins – and XP boosts for a limited number of races. Every Car Mastery perk for every car is unlocked using Skill Points. The Car Mastery menu, which shows all the available perks for a car, is accessed by pausing Forza Horizon 5, navigating to the ‘Cars’ tab, and then selecting the ‘Car Mastery’ page.

Find a car that with improved drift tricks and take it to one of the Forza Horizon 5 Drift Zones

Each car on the Forza Horizon 5 car list has a fixed set of perks that are generally suited to the kind of tricks you’ll be performing. For example, the Warthog has perks that increase the score you gain from performing Wreckage, Wrecking Ball, or Air tricks and can temporarily gain an extra 25% XP for the next 10 Cross Country races. Meanwhile, a fast supercar like the Lamborghini Huracán has mastery perks associated with with Drafting, Passing, and Speed tricks since it’s good for fast road races in Forza Horizon 5. A few cars have Car Mastery Car perks that instantly unlock a completely different car instead of granting some other benefit. For example, you can unlock a 1999 Lamborghini Diablo GTR from the 1997 Lamborghini Diablo SV’s Car Mastery.

Each car you own has its own Car Mastery perks, but any Skill Points you earn can be spent on perks for any car, not just the one you’re currently driving. The perks on the Car Mastery page are arranged in a grid pattern but are unlocked a bit like a traditional skill tree, in that unlocking a perk causes surrounding perks that are more expensive to become available for purchase too. The perks at the bottom of the mastery grid are usually the cheapest at one Skill Point, but they increase to three, then five, and then 10 Skill Points towards the top. Every car has an ‘extra life’ perk that causes Skill Chains to break on the second collision rather than the first which costs 25 Skill Points.

How to gain and spend Forza Horizon 5 Skill Points

Forza Horizon 5 skill chain complete earned skill spoint

To gain Skill Points, you need to perform Skill Chains which are scores that build up as you perform tricks while driving, whether that’s in a race or in free roam. Your Skill Chain score is visible at the top of your screen. You can get points for destroying objects, getting air by going over a hill or ramp, overtaking, near-misses, driving at high speed, drifting, slipstreaming another car ahead of you, doing J-turns, and more. Performing any trick increases the score and multiplier, but it seems like performing strings of unique tricks gets your score and multiplier up faster. Your Skill Chain multiplier caps out at 5x your current score, but this doubles to 10x during a Skill Song.

A good strategy for getting your combo up is to drive your fastest car up and down the central highway that runs across Mexico. These are some of the Forza Horizon 5 best cars you can use for high-speed driving. As you drive, you’ll get Speed and Near-Miss tricks, but once you reach the end and the road narrows, turn as hard as you can and smash into stuff to get Drift, One-Eighty, and Wreckage Tricks. Accelerate back up to top speed as quickly as possible back the way you came to keep your Skill Chain going with more Speed tricks.

If you end your chain by not performing a trick for a few seconds, you’ll be awarded your total score and any Skill Points you earned as a result – a higher score means more Skill Points. Crashing your car will cause the chain to break and you’ll lose all your points. Listen out for Skill Songs after you’ve bought the Casa Bella house as your final scores for any Skill Chains you perform during the song will get doubled.

You should spend your Skill Points as soon as you get them so that you’re always unlocking new perks. This will improve your car’s ability to perform Skill Chains and earn Skill Points as you go and will get you lots of nice and useful rewards along the way. Performing Skill Chains and spending Skill Points will also grant you XP which contributes towards your player level. Once you’ve levelled up a fair bit, for any new cars you get, you could try saving your Skill Points up to unlock the extra life perk which will make performing Skill Chains much more forgiving, helping you to power through the rest of the perks later.

Hopefully those were some useful tips on what Car Mastery is and how you can spend your skill points, but we’ve got more Forza Horizon 5 tips here too.

Destiny 2 Iron Banner daily challenges and details of the objective are visible on the Crucible page of the Destinations screen. You’ll need to complete one of these challenges for the new ‘Forging Iron’ quest for Season of the Haunted, but there are four daily challenges to complete. Each one awards Pinnacle gear and Iron Banner Rank boosts, which’ll help you get even more loot from Lord Saladin. Here’s what you need to know about finding the Iron Banner daily challenges in Destiny 2 and how to complete them in Rift to make Lord Saladin – or rather Valus Forge – proud.

Destiny 2 Solar 3.0 builds

If you’re looking for new Destiny 2 Solar 3.0 builds for PvE, check out our guide

To get more Iron Banner daily challenges, you’ll automatically receive a new one at the daily reset for the first four days of Iron Banner – that’s Tuesday to Friday. Confusingly, they are marked as ‘Weekly’ challenges and don’t expire until the end of the Iron Banner event, so you can actually wait until the daily reset on Friday and you’ll have all four challenges ready to complete.

For the current Iron Banner event, you must complete an increasing number of Iron Banner matches, and progress carries over from each challenge, so you’ll need to complete 18 matches in total:

  1. Complete 3 Iron Banner matches using a Solar or Void Subclass
  2. Complete 7 Iron Banner matches using a Solar or Void Subclass
  3. Complete 12 Iron Banner matches using a Solar or Void Subclass
  4. Complete 18 Iron Banner matches using a Solar or Void Subclass

It’s also important to note that these Iron Banner daily challenges, their rewards, and the Forging Iron quest are character-based, not account-based. That means completing a challenge on one character will not complete it on your other characters, so you’ll have to do it again, but you’ll still get Pinnacle rewards and more for doing so. This is the same set of challenges as the previous Iron Banner event, but hopefully the objectives will change between future events.

Iron Banner daily challenge rewards

Once you’ve completed a daily challenge, which you will need to do as part of the new Forging Iron introduction quest for Iron Banner, you’ll get your rewards: a Pinnacle Iron Banner loot drop, which will help you reach this season’s power cap of 1570, and a 100% boost to your Iron Banner Rank gains. Each challenge awards this boost and there will be four daily challenges per character, per Iron Banner event, so completing them all will massively increase your rank gains. Be sure to check in with Saladin at the Tower to collect rewards and Iron Banner Engrams as you rank up too – you can get the reprised Wizened Rebuke Fusion Rifle and Hero’s Burden Submachine Gun.

Destiny 2 Iron Banner revamp

Increase your Iron Banner Rank gains further by using up to 5 pieces of Iron Banner gear – that’s any Iron Banner weapon or piece of armor – and using any Iron Banner emblem. The armor can also be the item itself or as an ornament. If you wear a piece of Iron Banner armor with a different Iron Banner ornament on top, this counts as two pieces of gear, so you won’t need to wear a full set of armor to get the maximum rank boost.

While Iron Banner returns in Season of the Haunted, the seasonal quest aboard the Derelict Leviathan ship has come to an end. Of course, you can still explore in patrols and participate in Nightmare Containment, but you should definitely keep an eye out for Destiny 2 Calus Bobbleheads, or plunder chests with Destiny 2 Opulent Keys.
