]]>The Korean electronics giant capped off its half-hour long CES 2021 press conference with a brief teaser of the LG Rollable: as the conference ends, we see the whole thing playing out on a device the size of a tablet. Then the tablet’s screen seamlessly scales down, reducing the overall size of the device and returning it to a more typical phone aspect ratio.

If you’ve seen the way LG’s rollable TVs emerge from their bases, it’s a lot like that – just in the size of something that could fit in your pocket. Foldable phones have been on the market for a few years, but a rollable screen could have the advantage of no visible seams and less overall bulk when rolled/folded down. Plus, I’ve gotta say that I’m generally excited for any kind of phone that doesn’t just look like every other phone from the last eight years.
The way the phone effortlessly shrinks looks magic, at least in the magical school of carefully constructed press conference tech demos. But according to CNET (opens in new tab)‘s sources, extremely real LG Rollable phones will start rolling out onto the market later this year.
Other tech marvels from CES 2021 so far include a 48″ gaming OLED that bends at the press of a button, a new chair from Razer that unfolds a 60″ wraparound screen, and the long-awaited announcement of GeForce RTX 3060 cards.

]]>Dubbed the ‘HyperX ChargePlay Duo Controller Charging Station for Xbox’, it has an MSRP of $39.99 (we’re not sure what the international price is just yet). Because the next-gen Xbox features AA batteries as standard, being able to get our hands on a rechargeable, affordable alternative is welcome news. The final product will include two 1400mAH rechargeable battery packs, quick docking for two controllers, and a weighted base with LED indicators to display battery status.
Although this charger was initially designed for Xbox One, it’s compatible with the Series X or S; it features two additional battery doors that will fit onto the next-gen controllers.

Another intriguing announcement from HyperX during CES 2021 was a new 60% gaming keyboard – the company’s first. This tenkeyless device is a lot smaller than normal in the interest of portability and wider freedom of mouse movement. Officially labelled as the ‘HyperX Alloy Origins 60 Mechanical Gaming Keyboard’, it has a compact design for less travel time and HyperX red linear mechanical switches with a shorter actuation point. Thanks to exposed LED switches and hard-wearing PBT double-shot keycaps with secondary functions printed on the sides, it promises to be a functional and handsome device.
It won’t be hitting shelves alone, either. The HyperX Pulsefire Haste mouse, the wireless version of the HyperX Cloud II headset, and Cloud Revolver headset are being released globally today (January 11 2021). Because the latter was only available in the US until now, that’s good news for the rest of the world.

]]>The post LG shows off a 48″ bendable OLED screen that lets you near-instantly change its curve appeared first on Game News.
]]>The 48-inch screen features a single button on its base that, when pressed, can bend the screen to “a curvature radius of up to 1000r”, helping immerse you in games by putting you at the center of the image. Press the button again and the screen will automatically flatten out so you can sit back on the couch to watch a movie or show at the standard rectangular aspect ratio (or vice versa, and you can adjust how much the screen bends to fit your preference).
The screen also features Cinematic Sound OLED technology, which vibrates the display’s panel itself to create sound instead of using standard built-in speaker technology. LG says this helps create more immersive audio as well, with higher quality sound that seems like it’s really coming from the image instead of just below it. The new display is one of the featured items at LG’s offline exhibition hall in Seoul, though you can also take a tour yourself without leaving home on LG’s website (opens in new tab).
The overall design is just a prototype for now, and it may never make it to full scale production, but it’s definitely one of those CES finds that makes you stop and go “oooh”. Make sure you stay tuned to GamesRadar for more news from the show throughout the rest of the week.

]]>Lenovo’s prototype device was revealed before the tech showcase CES 2021 is due to take place next week. As Tom’s Guide (opens in new tab) details, the Lavie Mini packs an 11th Gen Intel Core i7 processor and Intel Iris Xe graphics, with an 8-inch touchscreen. Compact and small in size, the Lavie Mini is also lightweight to add to its portability factor, weighing in at just 579g / 1.28lb.
The most interesting thing about it, though, is the way it can transform into a gaming device, not unlike the Nintendo Switch. Switching up from your standard laptop setup, the Lavie Mini’s keyboard can be tucked away and two game controllers can be attached to either side of the screen in the same way as Joy-Cons. The device also comes with a docking station, so you can play your games on a TV if you want to take a break from the 8-inch display.
No release date has been announced for the device yet since it’s currently a conceptual prototype for the time being, but if anyone is after a Switch that’s more like a PC/laptop, the Lavie Mini could just be the answer you’re looking for if it becomes a reality.
CES 2021 is set to start next week on January 11 and will take place over several days until January 14. During the annual tech showcase, which will be all-digital this year, you can expect to see announcements for all sorts of new and upcoming tech.
