]]>By the looks of it, Funcom isn’t leaving any myth, legend or nut-job conspiracy theory behind. As lead content designer Joel Bylos explains at the onset of the five-minute video: %26ldquo;When you’re creating a massively multiplayer online game set in the real world, the amount of material and inspiration you can draw upon is simply staggering…players will go to iconic locations all of the world. One minute they’ll be battling ancient mummies in the shadow of the great pyramid in Egypt, or perhaps be exploring a haunted amusement park along the coast of New England -or in another they’ll be hunting for werewolves in the forests of Transylvania.%26rdquo;
Yikes. Here’s hoping our travel insurance covers ‘dismemberment by fictional creatures’. You can keep tabs on The Secret World’s progress atFuncom’s website (opens in new tab).

]]>The post Humble Indie Bundle 3 breaks records, earns $2.1M for winning causes appeared first on Game News.
]]>The latest Humble Indie Bundle (technically the fourth) launched on July 26th and included the games Crayon Physics Deluxe, Cogs, VVVVVV, And Yet It Moves, and Hammerfight. Organizers later added a free trial of Minecraft and the Humble Indie Bundle 2 into the mix to sweeten the deal; a move which no doubt helped the Humble Indie Bundle 3 reach its final download total of 372,370.
As for who paid what, the highest individual donation was posted by Bitcoin Exchange company Mt.Gox at $4,096, followed closely by Minecraft creator Markus “Notch” Persson with $4,048. Overall, Linux gamers topped the list of donators with an average contribution of $12.04 per download – more than double the average donation of $5.82.
Profits raised from the Humble Indie Bundle 3 will go to theElectronic Frontier Foundation (opens in new tab), theChild’s Play charity (opens in new tab), and (in small part) to the game developers and Humble Indie Bundle organizers. You can sign up at the official site now (opens in new tab)to receive updates on future modest bundles.

%26ldquo;On the 360 we don%26rsquo;t have a partial install option; it%26rsquo;s all or nothing, which is kind of unfortunate,%26rdquo; admitted Carmack, explaining, %26ldquo;It means you have to install 21 to 22GB of stuff which takes a long time, but if you%26rsquo;ve got it and you play it on the 360 that%26rsquo;s the way to go.%26rdquo;
%26ldquo;Once you get everything from memory that works pretty good, but if you%26rsquo;re coming straight from the hard drive then the first time you walk into everything from the DVD or from the Blu-ray %26ndash; even worse in terms of total latency time %26ndash; you listen to that Blu-ray churning around as its pulling everything in,%26rdquo; he added.
Rage will arrive for the Xbox 360 on three discs; two for the solo campaign, and another for the multiplayer. It’s unclear if the single Blu-ray PS3 version will have a similar install option when it arrives alongside its PC and Xbox 360 editions on October 4th in North America, and October 7th in the UK.

Iwata revealed Nintendo’s DLCdirection during a Q&A session following its earnings briefing withinvestors in Tokyo last Friday. He insisted digital sales would not overshadow packaged software, but instead compliment Nintendo’sproducts and become another pillar of the company’s overall strategy over the next three years. That said, Iwata said both he and Shigeru Miyamoto were interested in DLC that could potential extend the shelf life of its games through added levels and features, butthat Nintendo would avoidcreating cheaper,less meaningful DLC (i.e., character perks) for its first party titles.
Further to rolling out DLC systems, Iwata added Nintendo would be working on turning the eShop into a larger entity, and making full use of the 3DS internet capabilities. What he won’t do, however, is pursue free-to-play opportunities with premier content, adding that particular business modelwould, in his opinion,be toxic to the Nintendo brand.
The ability toreleasepaid digital contentfor the3DS will be available to developers by the end of 2011, with similar options for the Wii U tobe readyupon its launch.
