Latino Review (opens in new tab) is reporting that Smith is in negotiations to join Ben Affleck’s solo Batman movie The Batman. The story goes on to say that it would be a “major role” and we may be getting a “The Good, The Bad and The Ugly scenario”, which could see the Dark Knight teaming up with the marksman to take down a villain.

It’s worth noting that this is all speculation right now, but a team-up between Affleck’s Batman and Smith’s Deadshot would be huge news and would make for another supersized superhero movie for Warner Bros. We’re looking forward to seeing what each actor will bring to their characters next year.

Directed by David Ayer and starring Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto, Jai Courtney, and Joel Kinnaman, Suicide Squad will open in the UK and US on 5 August 2016. Plus, Costume Designer, Michael Wilkinson confirmed the inclusion of another superhero when he spoke with Omelette (opens in new tab): “I’m not really at the liberty to talk about The Flash right now, but it’s something that you’ll be seeing in the future in our films. You do get a glimpse of him, of course, in Batman v Superman.

“But I’m really looking forward to taking the amazing, iconic costume for The Flash and interpreting it in a fresh way where Ezra Miller is playing The Flash,” Wilkinson continued. “He’s an extraordinary performer, he has a sort of interesting sense of humor and the youth that will be great for Barry Allen and I think he’s going to make a great Flash.”

If you’re worried The Flash showing up in Batman v Superman is yet another addition to what could already be an overstuffed film, it’s worth highlighting that Wilkinson specifically said we’ll only be getting a “glimpse” of the scarlet speedster. This more than likely means it will only be a cameo to help tide us over until Justice League and his solo movie. Of course, if you really need your Flash fix, there’s the excellent TV show starring Grant Gustin, which airs new episodes each week.

It’s not a concern shared by producer Charles Roven, who had this to say on the matter: “I don’t think that’s an issue for this film at all. I really don’t… I think that the film is called Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, so there’s a reason it’s called Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and not Dawn of Justice: Batman v Superman. So you’re gonna invest mostly in Batman v Superman and I think that you’ll find other characters in there that you hopefully will want to see more of.”

“One of the things that we’re doing when we’re bringing together the DC Justice League Universe is we’re creating not only stories that work for the individual film, but they have some resonance to the other films that we’re doing. And I’m hoping that what’s also gonna keep the interest very keen is we’re telling hopefully compelling stories.”

Given that he’s producing the film, Roven’s comments have to be taken with a pinch of salt. The question of overstuffing ultimately comes down to how much screen time the Justice Leaguers will have, and the aim for Snyder will be to whet the appetite for future adventures with as little footage of Wonder Woman, The Flash, Cyborg and co as possible.

Roven also went on to say that we can expect to see new footage “before the end of the year”, adding that “I think it’s really a wonderful film. I think Zack [Snyder]’s done an amazing job”. We can’t wait to see if he’s right!
