Return to the world of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla in early 2022 with not just the new DLC Dawn of Ragnarök, but also in a prequel story called Forgotten Myths, appearing only in comic books.

Both the new DLC and comic book are set in the Asgardian dreamworld from Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, with Eivor taking on the mantle of the Norse god Odin.

In Dark Horse Comics’ three-issue series Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: Forgotten Myths, three other figures from Norse mythology step forward – Thor, Baldr, and Heimdall. The warriors three come together after a fire giant from Muspelheim is looming at the borders of their lands, the Æsir. But when they take on the fire giant, the trio learns that an entire Muspel army is amassing ahead of an invasion – and they must try to find peace before a war breaks out across the Nine Realms.

Minor spoilers ahead for the Dawn of Ragnarök DLC…

From the advance description of the Dawn of Ragnarök DLC we know that Baldr will end up being taken prisoner by the fire giant Surtr, and Odin must step in.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: Forgotten Myths will be written by Alex Freed, with art by Martin Tunica and colorist Michael Atiyeh.

In the DLC, you (as Odin/Eivor) will venture out to both Muspelheim and Jotunheim to rescue Baldr.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: Forgotten Myths #1 (of 3) goes on sale on March 16, 2022. The Dawn of Ragnarök DLC debuts six days earlier on March 10.

With Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: Dawn of Ragnarok, Ubisoft Sofia is setting out to bring us the biggest and most ambitious expansion we’ve seen in the series so far. While the base experience has already explored Eivor’s connection to Odin in mythological realms like Jotunheim and Asgard, Dawn of Ragnarok will delve even deeper into the mythos of the Vikings. As Eivor, you will fully adopt the role of Odin and journey to a new Norse realm in a quest to rescue your son, Baldr. By wielding exciting godly abilities in combat, you’ll take on new challenges and foes in a setting about one third the size of the landscapes of England.

With 35 hours of gameplay to tuck into and a cast of new characters to meet, the DLC set to arrive on March 10, 2022 will give us one very big reason to return to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla next year. I, for one, can’t wait to leap right back in and gain insight into the character of Odin. As the studio behind Assassin’s Creed Rogue and the Assassin’s Creed Origins Curse of the Pharaoh DLC, the team at Ubisoft Sofia wants to deliver an experience to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla that will, as creative director Mikhail Lozanov explains, fascinate players.

“Throughout history, mythology has always played an important role in people’s daily lives. Since Assassin’s Creed is а brand that explores various historical periods, naturally mythology is an inseparable part of this exploration. When we initially started brainstorming how to expand such a huge and varied package as Valhalla is, it came naturally to us that mythology – which was touched only briefly in the main game – is the right and strong vision for Dawn of Ragnarok,” says Lozanov. “The Dwarves also played a very important role in almost every myth or saga that we know, so Svartalfheim was also a natural choice. We believe that players will be fascinated and surprised by how the dwarven kingdom and Odin, the All-Father are recreated through the eyes of 9th century Vikings.”

Discovery Tour: Viking Age is a fantastic way to immerse yourself in the history of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

As Lozanov mentions, Dawn of Ragnarok will give you the opportunity to explore the kingdom of the dwarves, known as Svartalfheim. The new Norse realm is currently under invasion and the war spreading across the land has sent the dwarves into hiding. In your quest to rescue your son and exact revenge on those responsible, you must set out in search of the dwarves and use their knowledge to aid you. With diverse landscapes, such as giant underground forges to journey through, the prospect of leaping into another new setting steeped in Viking legend and mythology is undoubtedly appealing. As we’ve already seen in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s take on Jotunheim and Asgard, the mythological realms also offer up some very visually engaging worlds that can be both surreal and fantastical.

When it came to bringing the new realm to life, Ubisoft Sofia approached the design and feel of Svartalfheim in much the same way as building a character. “When you are building characters, one way to approach it is to place your character in a situation where they don’t belong and witness their reactions. We treat our world, Svartalfheim, as a character as well,” Lozanov explains. “So, by juxtaposing this serene and surreal world against the invasion players can experience its character. Making the inhabitants of this world also react to these events, brings out their character and makes the Dwarven kingdom alive and surprising. We strongly encourage the players to explore Svartalfheim and they will find a huge diversity of stories and events that will spice up their journey.”

Since you’re taking on the role of the Norse god Odin, it’s only right that you get some powerful new abilities that are befitting the All-father in this new realm. Thanks to the dwarves, you’ll be given what’s known as a Hugr-Rip, which is a bracer that allows you to possess the abilities of fallen enemies. This new feature will present you with some very exciting new powers that look set to really shake up the combat of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. A few examples include the ability to shapeshift into a raven to perform assassinations from the sky, giving your weapons elemental effects, raising enemies from the dead to fight for you, and even teleporting to locations with your bow.

These new powers will not only deliver new experiences in combat, but in exploration, and even some puzzle elements as we explore Svartalfheim. Previously, Wrath of the Druids offered up some new combat abilities that could be gained from tomes and the in-game skill tree, and Siege of Paris added a variety of one-handed swords to try out. But Dawn of Ragnarok arguably has some of the most exciting abilities yet, with powers that really lend themselves to the mythological world we’re set to explore.

“Right from the start, our objective was to refresh the gameplay of all players,” says game director Georgi Popov. “Being set in mythology really created the perfect opportunity for this new gameplay. In Dawn of Ragnarök, players will possess the powers of their enemies through careful and strategic use of the Hugr-Rip – a mighty artifact crafted by the dwarves and gifted to Odin. The powers will give players new approaches to stealth, let them reach inhospitable locations, traverse the peaks and valleys of Svartalfheim – and, of course, unleash devastation on the forces of Jotunheim and Muspelheim.”

“But players should always stay on their toes. The Hugr-Rip can store only 2 powers at a time. And the way to change them is to defeat opponents and take their powers for your own. This creates a strategic choice for players – they should always be on the lookout for new powers that might be more suited to their current situation, but also, they should also be careful which power they abandon,” Popnov continues. “Once inside the Hugr-Rip, Powers can be used as many times as needed. Activating the powers is not free though – they cost ‘Hugr’. The term roughly translates as the spirit or ‘Life Force’. All living things carry it, and Odin can refill it by defeating enemies and animals, and draining it from Hugr Blooms. In times of dire need, players can even sacrifice some of their own life for Hugr at Shrines of Yggdrasil.”

Frost and Flame

“Exploring the character of Odin allowed us to create a deeply personal story that many will relate to and maybe will find tiny fragments of their own personality.”

Mikhail Lozanov, creative director

In Svartalfheim, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to test out these new abilities as you face different challenges and take on new foes. With invaders such as Jotnars – the Frost Giants that you may have already encountered in Jotunheim in the core game – you’ll also be going up against Muspel enemies from the fiery realm of Muspelheim for the first time. The fire opponents will bring fresh challenges to the combat, with the likes of Flame Keepers who use an ability to bring back fallen foes, and adversaries known as Surtr’s Fury who will launch at you and explode to inflict some damage. With the arrival of Muspel invaders, we’re also set to take on what is said to be the most powerful enemy Odin has faced yet in the imposing fire giant of legend, Surtr.

After taking on druidic members in Wrath of the Druids and going up against heavy cavalry knights and lots of rats in Siege of Paris, the mythological setting in Dawn of Ragnarok looks set to shake up the combat with its own unique opponents. As we set about exploring the new realm, we’ll encounter and infiltrate enemy strongholds, where we can once again use our new arsenal of powers. Outside of combat against the mythological beings of frost and flame, there will also be a new arena where you can take on the Valkyries’ challenge. With options to increase the difficulty of these challenges to earn greater rewards, these arena-based trials will see you go up against more new foes as well as some familiar faces. One thing’s for sure: we’ll have plenty of battles to overcome in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla next year.

Since mythology is so deeply rooted in the traditions and culture of the Vikings, it’s exciting to see the upcoming expansion focus on this side of Eivor’s journey and explore their role and destiny as Odin. As a complex figure, the team at Ubisoft Sofia relished the chance to explore the story of the All-father, which Losanov believes many will relate to. “What is most fascinating about the Norse myths is how human and vulnerable all of their Gods are. They could be mighty and strong but at the same time they have their vices and flaws,” says Losanov. “Exploring the character of Odin allowed us to create a deeply personal story that many will relate to and maybe will find tiny fragments of their own personality.”

“Odin is an extremely complex and diverse character with all his flaws and strengths,” Losanov adds. “With Dawn of Ragnarök players will be able to understand his personality and follow them on their journey to rescue their son, Baldr. Players will uncover something larger than they have ever imagined.”

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: Dawn of Ragnarok is set to release on March 10, 2022.

Ubisoft has confirmed that whilst we won’t get a new Assassin’s Creed Valhalla (opens in new tab) update until “sometime in December”, the ongoing Oskoreia Festival has been extended until December 9.

This means players still grinding for Oskoreia Festival tokens have a little extra time to unlock the festival’s custom items, such as your bird’s skeleton Bone Raven skin or a bony headdress for Eivor.

Players can also contribute to the community challenge of performing 250,000 kills with a one-handed sword. It doesn’t matter how many you manage to pull off, either; just contribute at least one kill to the aggregate total and you’ll secure your own Basim sword if the community manages to complete the challenge (thanks, Eurogamer (opens in new tab)).

Otherwise, we need to wait for the next title update – 1.4.1 – which will hopefully be available later this month, bringing a festive blanket of snow to Ravensthorpe.

If it’s been some time since you last spent quality time with Eivor, you might have missed that new DLC is now available for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Tombs of the Fallen.

As revealed last month (opens in new tab), Eivor must scourer England to locate all the Tombs of the Fallen. That means there are now four total new tombs to explore, and there’s a big emphasis on puzzle-style gameplay with each of them.

If you simply can’t get enough of Vikings, don’t forget that Netflix recently revealed its 2022 slate of genre TV shows, and it includes the highly-anticipated Vikings: Valhalla (opens in new tab).

Premiering on February 25, the show is set 100 years after the History Channel’s original Vikings series, at a time when the Vikings had overrun England, taken control of Normandy in France, and ventured across the Atlantic Ocean. Now, however, their time in England is nearing an end.

Tattoos in video games are tricky. When done right, they add an extra layer of immersion to a game world. When done wrong, they can feel jarringly out of sync with either the game’s art style or the tattooed character in question. Tattoos are powerful visual markers that can help tell stories and build worlds, which is why they can be especially powerful in video games.

Recent advances in both game development technology and platform processing power allow tattoos to be more detailed and realistic than ever. That’s a huge part of the reason why games like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Cyberpunk 2077 have such beautiful, intricate, and realistic ink. But it’s not just improved visuals that make a good game tattoo.

As evidenced by the beautiful Japanese traditional tattoos designed for the Yakuza series by legendary tattoo artist Horitomo, a keen understanding of tattoo culture and the process of tattooing can make video game tattoos standout pieces of art and worldbuilding, whether it offers in-depth character backgrounds, customization options, or immersion by way of ink. The three games highlighted here are setting new standards when it comes to in-game tattoos.

Fictional future tattoos

Variety and attention to detail are crucial when creating an immersive game, particularly one that lets you customize your characters with tattoos. With a world as vast as Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red had their work cut out for them. Cyberpunk 2077 has some of the best variety of video game tattoos, with multiple genres of ink represented – including traditional Japanese tattoos and the red-and-black sticker book motif seen on Judy Alvarez.

“In the world of Night City, personal style is extremely important,” says Waldek Kamiński, senior concept artist at CD Projekt Red. “There is room for a ton of badass designs in many different styles, so while creating new tattoos I could constantly be asking myself ‘Is this cool? Would someone like or choose to have a tattoo like this?'”

Those questions help make the world of Night City feel more rich and lived-in, as its occupants’ tattoos are a direct reflection of the society Cyberpunk 2077 is trying to depict. “You have to be asking yourself a number of important questions to help guide the design from start to finish: ‘Where is the tattoo gonna be on the body? Why did this NPC decide to have this tattoo? How will the player react to seeing this in-game? What will they think about this character when they do see it? Does this tattoo fit the character’s personality? Is this cool? Does this design fit the style/art direction of the game?’ and so on,” Kamiński explains. “I think, most importantly, you need to make sure that whatever you create fits the game world, and the character you’re designing the ink for. It needs to feel like a natural fit.”

That thought process is carried all throughout Cyberpunk 2077, from the lowly NPCs that occupy Night City’s streets to powerful allies such as Judy Alvarez. In the case of Alvarez, CDPR wanted her tattoos to be meaningful – to not only give you a sense of her place in the world, but an idea of who she was before she befriended V. “First, we decided what style of tattoos would be the best fit for her – scattered around the body, only two colors, etc. Second, we took her background as a diver and made sure that was reflected in her ink through a sea motif, including a shark and some seahorses,” says Kamiński. “Judy is a really mysterious character, especially when you first meet her. V needs to spend time with her to learn about her past, her ideals, who she is as a person, so I wanted to transmit that air of mystery in her tattoos, too.”

Viking ink

Assassin's Creed Valhalla

Where CDPR used ink as a way of immersing you in the world of Night City and to reflect the broad nature of body modification in Cyberpunk 2077, Ubisoft Montreal was faced with a different challenge. In Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, an impressive selection of Viking-style tattoos was introduced to help players craft their own version of Eivor. While these were well-received by fans, the designs almost didn’t make it into the final game. During production, Ubisoft tried desperately to find historical evidence that Vikings even had tattoos. It was only when the team discovered an account from Muslim historian Ahmad ibn Fadlan, that spoke of a Scandinavian people covered in markings, that the Assassin’s Creed Valhalla team was able to continue their tattoo design work.

“The markings were very interlaced designs, Celtic patterns, the kind where if you look at it too much your head’s gonna explode,” says Nicolas Rivard, art director for visual conception at Ubisoft Montreal. “I did some of those, I was throwing some challenges to myself, making mood boards and briefs for more talented people who can do real illustration. I tried to do an interlaced pattern and oh boy, man, I had my painkiller bottle next to me.”

Along with the complex interlaced designs seen in historical Viking carvings and artwork, the team drew inspiration from animals, which were also heavily represented in art from that time period. “The crows, the wolves, even some legendary creatures. We had very good information, so we went with that. The first tattoo designs were as close as possible to that benchmark and those guidelines,” Rivard says, before explaining that this was only the beginning of the process. “We want our players to have more than enough to choose from, a lot of our player base love cosplaying as their character, or dressing their character up and going to explore. I don’t know if you saw the pictures that came from the community… it’s insane, man. So we wanted them to have more tattoos.”

That’s why you’ll see that some of Eivor’s available tattoos look like body paint or runes, rather than what is considered to be more traditional Viking tattoos. It’s also why Ubisoft is still adding more tattoo options long after launch, including several that were designed by fans (opens in new tab). By offering players a chance to decorate their Eivor in (mostly) historically accurate ink, Ubisoft gives players myriad options in terms of expression. “Adding as much choice as possible for customizing your character enhances the roleplay aspect. Roleplay for us means immersion, and immersion is what makes a game great,” says Rivard. “The settlement is your home, you can customize your gear, your ship, your horse, and your mount. But the tattoos feel really personal… you’re really in communion with the character, putting those tattoos on and seeing the results. People hide their hard-earned armor sets so you see their tattoos!”

The Japanese tattoo legend

Yakuza Kiwami 2

The tattoos in the Yakuza series not only help establish the setting, but add a layer of unspoken development to its characters. Yakuza features some of the most impressive tattoo work I’ve ever seen in games, and that’s because Sega was smart enough to get a man named Horitomo (opens in new tab) involved. Horitomo is a legendary tattoo artist based in California who specializes in traditional Japanese tattoos called tebori, where tattoos are applied by hand using needles fastened to bamboo sticks.

Before Horitomo came to America, he was doing traditional Japanese tattoos in Yokohama – it was there that he was approached by two producers from Sega. “They asked me to design a tattoo for a game character. They had read an interview I had done for a tattoo magazine and were impressed that I was a Japanese tattoo artist who was studying traditional Japanese tattoos, instead of western styles which were wildly popular in Japan at the time. It was rare to find a tattoo artist studying the traditions of the Japanese tattoo. I guess that impressed them,” says Horitomo, who has designed pieces for Kazuma Kiryu, Akira Nishikiyama, and Yakuza Like a Dragon lead, Ichiban Kasuga, among many others.

Yakuza 7/Yakzua Like a Dragon

“It only made sense to make the tattoo progression realistic, as well”

Horitomo, tattoo artist

Japanese tattoos often depict symbols from woodblock prints, like tigers, koi carp, oni, ghosts, cherry blossoms, and more. Japanese tattoos are incredibly meaningful and often tell a story about the tattooed person in question. So, when it came to designing Ichiban Kasuga’s tattoo, Horitomo proposed a Ryugyo design. “A picture of the fish on its way to becoming a dragon,” he explains. “I felt that it was the perfect motif for that character based on his backstory.”

That level of realism and consideration isn’t just in the design of the tattoos but extends to the tattooing process depicted in the Yakuza series. In Yakuza 0, both Kazuma Kiryu and Akira Nishikiyama have sujibori – the black outlines of tattoos that will eventually be completely colored in. Both their stories and their tattoos are in their infancy, so this design choice tells a clear character story. And the presence of sujibori instead of a completely finished tattoo is also a realistic representation of the Japanese tattooing process. “Traditional Japanese tattoos cover large areas of the body, sometimes the whole body. This cannot be done in one sitting. It can take years to complete just one body part, such as the back where it starts at your shoulders and ends mid-thigh. Traditionally it is done by hand, as well,” Horitomo says. “So to keep with the immersive realism of the Yakuza game series, it only made sense to also make the tattoo progression realistic as well. I feel it really enhances the reality of the game.”

Tattoos can make or break a game’s sense of place. The ones highlighted here are prime examples of the storytelling and world-building power of well-researched and beautifully designed tattoos. Cyberpunk 2077’s tattoos help immerse you in the fictional Night City, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s ink lets players customize their own historically accurate Viking, and Yakuza’s ink provides detailed character backgrounds without saying a word. Video game tattoos can do a lot of narrative heavy lifting and fuel immersion. And they look damn cool while doing it.

Ubisoft has acknowledged an Assassin’s Creed Valhalla bug that is affecting players’ ability to save their games on PS5.

The bug, which is interrupting game sessions with a pop-up that reads “failed to save game progress,” first reared its ugly head back in June. Affected players report the issue happening whenever they try to manually save and when the game autosaves, creating loads of corrupted save files and potentially leading to hours of lost progress.

Ubisoft has now acknowledged the bug and says a fix is in the works, however we don’t yet have a timeline for when the issue might be resolved. We’ve reached out to Ubisoft for clarification and we’ll update this article if we hear back.

We’re aware of a save file issue causing “Failed to save game progress” pop up for some PlayStation players and are actively working on a solution,” reads a tweet from the Assassin’s Creed Twitter account. “Thank you for your patience.”

The issue seems to be specific to the PS5 version of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, but players are reporting different areas of the map and activities as trigger points. It’s a tricky one to nail down for sure, but some players have reported success with a simple workaround. Ubisoft Support even suggests trying this one out, so if you’re affected by this most unfortunate glitch, definitely give this a shot: simply download the PS4 version of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla to your PS5 while playing the PS5 version and try saving once it’s downloaded.

Hopefully that works as a temporary solution for you, but if not we’ll be keeping a close eye on word from Ubisoft on a potential fix.

In order to access the Siege of Paris DLC, you’ll need to head to Ravensthorpe. Once there, you’ll receive a letter from Randvi that informs you of a new visitor who wishes to speak with you, and a new quest will begin called Strangers Bearing Gifts. This is when you’ll first meet Toka of the Elgring clan, who tells you about a growing threat in Francia, and spins tales of great riches to be found in this distant land. After you converse with her, a new guesthouse building will be constructed in the settlement. In this building, you’ll find clan advisor Pierre, who you can speak to in order to initiate your journey to Francia and begin the expansion.

If you’re new to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, it’s worth noting that you’ll only be able to begin the expansion after completing one of the first two story arcs – either Grantebridgescire or Ledecestrescire. While there is no mandatory power level in the expansion, the recommended power level for Francia is 200. If you’re at a considerably higher power level, the expansion will also adjust to your level, so you can still expect to enjoy a balanced experience in this new adventure.

As I cast my fishing line into the ocean in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, I look out over the horizon and admire the snowy peaks of Norway. The soothing sound of the waves rocks me into a feeling of calm, and I soak up the peaceful atmosphere of the moment. Then I feel the telltale rumble through my controller as a fish takes the bait – even as I begin to reel in my prize, I can’t help but take in the scenic views of the world around me. Lately, I’ve been completely hooked on fishing. In this world of pillaging, raiding, and stealthy assassinations, I’ve hung up my axe for a fishing line and I’ve been loving every second of it. Essentially, I’ve found a new way to get some relaxation by transforming Assassin’s Creed Valhalla into my very own little fishing sim.

But with all of the fishing sims out there, why did I choose Valhalla? Surely I could just as easily dip into games like Stardew Valley or Animal Crossing: New Horizons to get my fishing fix, right? Well, there are some game worlds you just keep coming back to, and even after finishing the main story and the recent Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: Wrath of the Druids expansion, I still found myself wanting to return. Fortunately, there is still plenty left in the world for me to do and discover – guided by the achievements I’m still yet to collect. Little did I know that my little trophy hunting session would turn into a full-blown fishing expedition.

Mass Effect Legendary Edition: The trials and tribulations of once again keeping my fish alive in Mass Effect 2

Initially, I was caught by the idea of earning the Good Catch trophy, which requires you to reel in at least one of each kind of fish that can be found in the regions of both England and Norway. So, with my raiding days behind me (for now), I venture out to catch the remaining fish I need to complete my collection and bag myself that all-important achievement. As you may already know if you’ve journeyed through Eivor’s adventure, merchants helpfully sell you lists with the general locations of where you can find all of the different types of fish. With all the parts of Fantastic Fish and Where to Find Them in my possession, I journey to the cold climbs of Norway to try and find an Arctic Char.

The fishing in Valhalla is certainly not the best I’ve ever tried when it comes to fishing in games. While it is quite straightforward, the mechanics can be a little finicky at times. Occasionally, it doesn’t seem very responsive to my directional inputs and a fish will pull on the rope and then awkwardly proceed to snag along the shore nearby until it eventually ends up in Eivor’s hands. For the most part, it’s a breeze… and if I’m being entirely honest, the actual act of fishing comes second to the serene feeling it instills me as I do it.

When I eventually locate a big Arctic Char swimming beneath the surface, for example, I’m surrounded by the soft, gentle sound of boats swaying on the still waters nearby. As I wait for a fish to take the bait, I’m presented with a pocket of time to really appreciate the beautifully rendered landscapes of Valhalla. In the distance, misty mountain peaks frame the skies, and crisp, white snow blankets the ground. Everything feels so still and calm. There’s no fighting, or the loud clashing of weapons here to distract. In this moment, Eivor is simply fishing and I’m right there with them. There’s something quite meditative about it all, and in a sense, it takes me away from the noise of my own life and the worries of my own mind – I can just focus on catching a fish and enjoying the views of the beautiful vistas.

As someone who has a penchant for taking eye-catching screenshots in games, fishing also gives me the chance to really make the most of the photo mode in Valhalla. I’ve lost count of how much time I while away attempting to frame up artistic shots of Eivor holding a prize catch, or trying to angle an underwater shot to get a close-up of a fish. The many screenshots that fill up space on my console have become a fun little album of memories from my great fishing expedition.

Over the years, I’ve always been quite partial to a spot of fishing in the world of games. From successfully reeling in a gigantic catch as Noctis in Final Fantasy 15, to most recently searching for legendary fish in Red Dead Redemption 2, and spending far too long trying to complete my aquarium by catching all of the Animal Crossing: New Horizons fish, I really have fallen in love with it as a side activity in all manner of virtual worlds.

As much as I enjoy all that Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has to offer, turning it into a fishing sim adventure gave me some much-needed reprieve from my day-to-day stresses. And even after I hear the satisfying ping of the trophy when I catch the last fish I need to earn the achievement, I throw the fishing line back into the water and continue to enjoy a little bit of calm.

The Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Siege of Paris DLC is official, and it’s coming this summer.

Ubisoft revealed the game’s second expansion during today’s Ubisoft Forward E3 2021 showcase. As a recent DLC leak suggested, the Siege of Paris will take Eivor to the city of Francia to make friends and enemies as they see fit.

Today’s reveal was light on details but did confirm that the Siege of Paris will feature “black box infiltration missions” that give players a general objective without any limitations on how they accomplish it. New abilities and equipment are also on the way, and ahead of the Siege of Paris, one-handed swords will be added to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla “in the coming weeks.”

The Siege of Paris will be Valhalla’s second major DLC, and Ubisoft says it won’t be the last. “For the first time on an Assassin’s Creed title, we’ll be supporting the game well into its second year,” senior community developer Karen Lee said at Ubisoft Forward. “While this year will be a very active year for the game, we’re already working on more expansions for next year. Something tells me that Eivor is not done with Odin yet.”

A brief teaser for an upcoming expansion rounded out Valhalla’s time at the showcase, with a molten runic gate pointing to more mythological shenanigans to come. We’ve been to England, Ireland, and soon France, but perhaps Valhalla’s next expansion will take us out of the countryside and into the realm of the gods?

Ubisoft’s showcase gave us new details on the Far Cry 6 Season Pass, which will bring back some fan-favorite villains as playable characters, as well as extended official gameplay footage to go with the Rainbow Six Extraction release date. Check out our ongoing E3 2021 roundup to catch up on all the other big news from this year’s scattered but stacked event.

With these Prime Day TV deals, you may find a cheap way to upgrade your viewing experience just in time for all these new games.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Wrath of the Druids sturgeon are required for an offering to the Rathbride Altar in Meath, but fishing for them is proving to be a problem for some people getting stuck into the first Assassin’s Creed Valhalla expansion. So if you’ve stumbled upon Rathbride Altar and need to source five big sturgeon to complete the mystery, let us help. This is everything you need to know about where to find five AC Valhalla Wrath of the Druids sturgeon.

Wrath of the Druids sturgeon locations

Rathbride Altar is found in southern Meath, the second county you’ll explore in Ireland. Cross the bridge over the Liffey River to find it, south-east of Lisdurrow and directly east from Ui Neill’s Rest. Try to interact with it and it’ll require five big sturgeon. Where do you get big sturgeon?

Head to the aforementioned bridge across Liffey River, directly north of Rathbride Altar. This is where you’ll find loads of big sturgeon in the water. Don’t bother trying to use the fishing line though because chances are, you’ll only catch regular sturgeon this way.

The big sturgeon are the ones repeatedly jumping out of the water, essentially taunting you. If you get too close to them in the water though, they’ll swim away quickly, so stay by the shore and shoot them in the water with your bow and arrow. It’ll take a while but eventually you’ll nab yourself five big ones and you can return to Rathbride Altar, offering in tow.

After the events that unfolded in the previous quest, the Gaelic kings convene with High-King Flann to discuss how to handle the presence of druids in Ireland. As you’ll no doubt already know if you’ve reached the dialogue choice that brought you here, the consensus is that an Inquisition against the druids is the best way to ensure unity and prevent cults such as the Children of Danu taking root again. Of course, this means getting rid of all druids in Ireland, which is something that Ciara won’t stand for. During the discussion, Flann asks if anyone else wants to speak, at which point you can get Eivor to offer their thoughts on the situation or stay out of debate altogether.

Eivor’s response – An Inquisition would work, I don’t agree with any of this, or say nothing

Ultimately, no matter which response you choose, the events that follow will unfold in the same way with Ciara storming off in anger. The only slight difference between each choice is how King Conchobar responds to your view. So you’re free to choose a response you believe is the best without fearing the consequences.

  • An Inquisition would work – Eivor says that such an inqusition will require many resources and it will be a burden on every kingdom, but that in time t could bring about the result they seek, but they should be aware of what it is they’re doing to get this outcome. King Conchobar will then nod in agreement with you.
  • I don’t agree with any of this – Eivor believes what the kings propose is a bold strategy, but the consequences of the taking such actions cannot be properly weighed and more time and thought should be taken before a final decision is made. King Conchobar argues that any time wasted will weaken their position.
  • (Say nothing) – By saying nothing, Eivor will simply shrug and scoff, and the conversation will continue without your input.
