As diehard fans will know, Resident Evil’s timeline is pretty complicated. Mainline games exist alongside CGI films in canon, while there are several spin-offs to take into account across the years. The Netflix series confuses things further by jumping even further forward in time, being in dialogue with past events, and building on pre-existing canon.

To help make sense of it all, we’ve provided an overview of the Resident Evil timeline’s main events – including where exactly the new Netflix series fits in.

When does the Resident Evil Netflix series take place?

Resident Evil Netflix series

The Resident Evil Netflix series takes place both in 2022 and 2036. That makes them the latest events chronologically on the Resident Evil timeline.

In 2022, Umbrella is still alive and kicking, with Albert Wesker (who has seemingly returned from the dead) living with his daughters Billie and Jade in New Raccoon City.

14 years later and an adult Jade is surviving in a post-outbreak world. Flesh-eating zombies have overrun much of the population, with various corporations carving out their own regions and city states. It is also heavily implied that the outbreak started in 2022.

These events, as is revealed in the show, all take place decades after the Raccoon City Incident in 1998. There, a zombie outbreak was covered up by Umbrella and the US Government, with the city eventually being nuked to hide the truth of what really happened. If you’re new to the series and keen to see how that played out, be sure to play the Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 Remakes.

Showrunner Andrew Dabb has already told us “everything that happened in the games exists in this world,” so here’s how the rest of the series fits alongside the Resident Evil Netflix show.

  • Resident Evil Zero (July 1998)
  • Resident Evil (July 1998)
  • Resident Evil 2 (September 1998)
  • Resident Evil 3 (September 1998)
  • Resident Evil: Code Veronica (December 1998)
  • Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness [Penamstan Civil War flashbacks] (2000)
  • Resident Evil 4 (2004)
  • Resident Evil: Revelations (2004-2005)
  • Resident Evil: Degeneration (2005)
  • Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness (2006)
  • Resident Evil 5 (2009)
  • Resident Evil: Revelations 2 (2011)
  • Resident Evil: Damnation (2011)
  • Resident Evil 6 (2012-2013)
  • Resident Evil: Vendetta (2014)
  • Resident Evil 7 (2017)
  • Resident Evil: Village (2021)
  • Resident Evil Netflix series (New Raccoon City scenes, 2022)
  • Resident Evil Netflix series (2036)

For the TL;DR crowd: the Resident Evil Netflix series takes place both 24 years and 38 years after the first three games. Wesker arriving in New Raccoon City in 2022 comes 13 years after his supposed death in Resident Evil 5.

If applying ‘games are canon’ as a blanket theory across the entire series, Resident Evil: Village is the closest in date to the Netflix series, technically taking place a year before the events of the new show. What that means for Umbrella’s resurgence both as Blue Umbrella in the latter games and as an evil corporation in the Netflix series is unclear, and there are likely to be some discrepancies if you map out every game in relation to the Netflix series.

To keep things as straightforward as possible, we can be sure that the genesis of the story began in 1998 with the first three games; the Resident Evil Netflix series builds upon it decades later. Phew. We made it.

Update: Ubisoft has confirmed four games are being “decommissioned” in September, but only DLC and online features will be removed from each.

“We don’t take the decision to retire services for older Ubisoft games lightly, and our teams are currently assessing all available options for players who will be impacted when these games’ online services are decommissioned on September 1st, 2022,” Ubisoft told GamesRadar+ in a statement.

“We are also working with our partners to update this information across all storefronts, so players will be fully informed about the removal of online services at the point of purchase as well as via our support article where we shared the news,” the company continued.

“Only DLCs and online features will be affected by the upcoming decommissioning,” Ubisoft elaborates. “Current owners of those games will still be able to access, play or redownload them. Our teams are working with our partners to update this information across all storefronts and are also assessing all available options for players who will be impacted when these games’ online services are decommissioned on September 1st, 2022.”

Original: Multiple Ubisoft games on Steam have either been delisted, or will be delisted come September.

Just earlier today on July 11, social media users reported that Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD would be removed from Steam later this year. A new notice on Steam stated that the game would be entirely delisted from the storefront on September 1, and would no longer be available to purchase or play after this date.

Now, the same thing appears to be happening to multiple other Ubisoft games. Both Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands (opens in new tab) and Splinter Cell Blacklist (opens in new tab) have both been amended with the same tag on Steam, notifying players that their Deluxe editions and all corresponding DLC will be delisted on September 1.

In fact, some Ubisoft games have already been delisted from Steam. Silent Hunter 5: Battle of the Atlantic (opens in new tab) and Space Junkies (opens in new tab) have been entirely taken down from the PC storefront, with a notice reading “At the request of the publisher, Space Junkies/Silent Hunter 5: Battle of the Atlantic is no longer available for sale on Steam.”

Right now, there’s zero information as to why these five games in total are being delisted on Steam. However, the notices for Space Junkies and Silent Hunter 5 make it clear that it’s Ubisoft themselves, and not another third party, that are behind the delistings. We’ve reached out to Ubisoft for comment, and will update this article with any further information received.

Head over to our new games 2022 guide for a complete look at what Ubisoft and every other developer has on the horizon for the near future.

It can be hard to narrow down the best Netflix action movies the streaming platform has to offer when new titles in the genre are added almost every week. Nobody wants to spend so long looking for their film night flick that they run out of time to actually watch it, so below, we’ve pooled together a list of awesome high-octane movies the service has available right now.

Most popular doesn’t always mean the greatest – sorry, The Interceptor – but whether you’re in the mood for neon-soaked, close-combat (Kate), a star-studded cowboy romp (The Harder They Fall), or an actioner that trades blood for banter (Red Notice), there’s bound to be something in our roundup that tickles your fancy.

Everything mentioned is available in both the US and the UK, so you can get your adrenaline fix whichever side of the pond you’re on. So, without further ado, scroll on to find the very best action movies streaming on Netflix now – and for more watching recommendations, check out our lists on The best Netflix shows and the best Netflix movies

The best Netflix action movies out now

RRR

RRR

Are you ready for one of the wildest movies you’ve ever seen? RRR is a masterpiece in Indian cinema. Directed by S. S. Rajamouli, the Telugu-language movie takes place in the 1920s and centers on two revolutionaries, Alluri Sitarama Raju (Ram Charan) and Komaram Bheem (N. T. Rama Rao Jr.), in their explosive challenge of the British Raj. It’s lengthy at 182 minutes, but doesn’t waste a second, cramming in everything from fiery bow and arrow battles and motorcycle chases to men fighting alongside bloodied tigers. If none of that tickles your fancy, firstly, what more do you want? Secondly, fear not, it also features a romantic subplot, a sweet bromance, and a couple of musical numbers, too. No surprise it made huge amounts of money at the box office.

The Harder They Fall

The Harder They Fall

Trumpeted by Netflix as a ‘new-school western’, The Harder They Fall in fact takes the staples of old-school westerns (bandits, bank jobs, train robberies, rowdy taverns, shootouts) but blends them all together in a manner that feels fresh and vibrant. Towns populated by Black people are painted in vivid hues, while an all-white town is literally that – stores built with pale wood and streets coated with sawdust shavings like snowflakes. Director Jeymes Samuel is a stylist, given to arresting compositions and whizz-bang set-pieces, but he isn’t afraid to let his magnificent actors simply lock eyes and jaw.

Red Notice

Ryan Reynolds, Gal Gadot, and Dwayne Johnson in Red Notice

Early in Netflix’s globe-trotting romp Red Notice, a priceless artifact is revealed to be a clever fake by the application of a fizzy drink. You won’t need sugary beverages to catch writer/director Rawson Marshall Thurber’s comedy-thriller out, because it’s exactly what it seems to be: a starry and undemanding caper, with Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot sticking like fingerprints to character type.

Reynolds plays master art thief Nolan Booth, whom we first encounter pursued by Johnson’s FBI profiler John Hartley for stealing said artifact. Various twists, turns, surprise incarcerations, and quips about Johnson’s physique later, Booth and Hartley reluctantly unite to best the Bishop (Gadot), the super-thief who routinely outwits them. Will these relative rookies-in-crime manage to make their moves before the Bishop calls checkmate?

Army of Thieves

Army of Thieves (2021)

Set six years before zombie heist movie Army of the Dead, Army of Thieves focusses on the nervous Ludwig Dieter, played by Matthias Schweighöfer, who also directs the movie. We’re in the early days of the zombie outbreak and Ludwig is just starting his safecracking days when he’s hired by a mysterious woman to carry out a heist with a ragtag bunch of aspiring thieves. The cast also includes Game of Thrones’ Nathalie Emmanuel and British comedian Guz Khan, while Zack Snyder executive produces. This one’s a fun flick that’s essentially part-Fast and Furious, part-comedy actioner that will sate any fans of Army of the Dead.

Kate

Mary Elizabeth Winstead in Kate

Mary Elizabeth Winstead gives John Wick a run for his money in Kate, Netflix’s action thriller. Joined by Woody Harrelson and Game of Thrones’ Michiel Huisman, Winstead plays the titular role, an assassin who finds out she only has 24 hours to live after being poisoned. She decides to spend her last moments going on a manhunt through Tokyo and befriends the daughter (Miku Martineau) of a past target in the process. Ignore the naysayers who say this one’s simply another knock-off of Keanu Reeves’ action franchise – Kate strikes out on her own, making for an engaging romp that’s well worth a watch.

Army of the Dead

Dave Bautista in Army of the Dead

Zack Snyder’s latest offering is an action-packed zombie heist movie that sees a group of mercenaries venture into an undead-ridden Las Vegas to crack a near impenetrable safe, with the promise of a huge reward. The problem is, Vegas is set to be nuked in just hours – and if that wasn’t enough to get the adrenaline pumping, a lot of the zombies the crew encounter are faster, stronger, and smarter than you’ve seen before. Expect plenty of dead vs. living showdowns. The cast includes Dave Bautista, Ella Purnell, Ana de la Reguera, Matthias Schweighöfer, Omari Hardwick, and Tig Notaro.

The Old Guard

The Old Guard

Charlize Theron headlines this popular graphic novel adaptation, a glorious mash of fight sequences and fantasy lore that plays the part of a modern-day actioner. The Old Guard follows a band of do-gooding mercenaries, led by Theron’s Andy, who also happen to be immortal. Through the ages, they’ve managed to keep their heads down and dispense with vigilante justice undetected, but the advent of technology soon makes that impossible.

Not content to rely solely on its cool “unstoppable warriors” schtick – that’s unveiled in an early show-stopping sequence – the movie kicks serious ass on every front. Director Gina Prince-Bythewood showcases her flair for marrying together a tight story with likable characters. Oh, and it’s got a romance for the ages, too.

The Lovebirds

The Lovebirds

A brisk, laugh-packed buddy comedy set over the course of one night. Nope, we’re not talking your standard ‘80s male-fronted pics. The Lovebirds takes that concept and splices it with the remnants of a fairy tale love story, opening on a couple, Jibran and Leilani, on their way to a party that they never reach because they fight in the car and decide to break-up. It’s tense, not particularly fun, and all feels a little grim. Until Jibran accidentally hits a cyclist who refuses their help.

Things spiral from that point, sending the duo into harm’s way repeatedly over the evening. They encounter a host of crooks who want to kill them, naturally making them work together as a team to survive their ordeal. It’s hardly reinventing the wheel, but that’s down to the comedic chops of Kumail Nanjiani and Issa Rae as the couple who deliver both gags and surprisingly solid beatdowns throughout.

Wheelman

Wheelman

You might know him as Crossbones from the MCU, or as that guy from The Purge movies. Here Frank Grillo plays a getaway driver – aka the wheelman of the title – thrown into an unfortunate set of circumstances when a heist goes wrong. With a car full of cash and no idea who framed him, it’s up to him to figure out what happened, even though he’s no idea who he can trust.

Dubbed a thriller and a neo-noir, with flashes of melodrama, you can safely call it all of those things. By the time the end rolls around, there’s no doubting this is a balls-to-the-wall actioner. And really, who doesn’t like a good car chase movie? Even when they’re bad they’re still a blast. Luckily, Wheelman is an excellent experiment in blending thrills and action, with a brisk running time that will make it speed by.

The Siege of Jadotville

The Siege of Jadotville

The Siege of Jadotville is inspired by the experiences of the 157-strong Irish Army during their 1961 UN peacekeeping mission in Congo. It’s hard to believe that Jamie Dornan, he of Fifty Shades, can deliver on the dramatic action front but he’s at the top of his game as Commandant Pat Quinlan in this Netflix Original. He leads his 150 men into battle with a world-weariness that seems baked-in, taking them on a life-changing mission to hold steady a fort from 3,000 Congolese troops.

Part of director Richie Smyth’s plan to toughen up his actors before shooting was to ensure that their experiences felt real. He made all of them attend a soldier training camp… and boy, does it show. That’s how you bring a layer of emotional truth to a movie like this.

The Night Comes For Us

The Night Comes For Us

Fancy watching something that will make your soul shake? Give this a go. It’s a blistering actioner that seldom takes its foot off the gas. Keeping the story simple works as an anchor, a way to let the action run riot, which you want with a star like The Raid’s Iko Uwais in charge. Here he plays a triad thug called Ito, who at the last minute turns on his fellow enforcers, when he spies a young girl in the village they’re currently slaying. Choosing to save her life, and waste his comrades, Ito must do whatever it takes to protect the child.

Cinema’s gone pretty far in terms of what’s deemed, well, acceptable, pushing the limits of good taste to the extreme. The Night Comes For Us charges down that route, somehow extending previous ideas on over the top violence and relentless barrage of gore. You will not see another action movie like it this year.

Da 5 Bloods

Da 5 Bloods

Not a classic action movie, but features enough war-torn action to certainly find itself on this list. Da 5 Bloods is directed by Spike Lee and tells the story of four US veterans (played by Delroy Lindo, Clarke Peters, Isiah Whitlock Jr, Norm Lewis) returning to Vietnam to locate and repatriate the remains of their squad leader (played by Chadwick Boseman).

There’s also the little matter of finding a trunk of gold bullion they buried during the war – it was intended to pay locals for their help against the Viet Cong, but when it went down with a CIA plane, our heroes took it for themselves. This is a frequently fierce, fascinating picture, and that’s why it’s classed here as one of the best Netflix action movies available now.

The Wandering Earth

The Wandering Earth

Watching Chinese box-office smash The Wandering Earth, it seems as if its screenwriter mainlined every ‘90s Hollywood disaster movie then promptly declared “Hold all the beers in the world.” The sweaty-browed machismo of American popcorn entertainment is nothing compared to what’s being dubbed China’s first proper sci-fi blockbuster. The story somehow surpasses them all.

Earth is in dire straits as the sun is on the cusp of dying out, making life on the planet uninhabitable. Scientists pepper the Earth’s surface with 10,000 rocket thrusters, enabling Earth to be directed to a new star system…  as long as they also avoid pesky Jupiter’s gravity. It’s ambitious-as-hell yet director Frank Gwo and his team somehow juggle the superb ensemble cast along with a series of showy visuals for an at-times arresting disaster actioner.

Code 8

Code 8

We’re in a post-MCU world now where the superhero schtick is no longer counterculture. As a result, we’re now getting more fun, straight-to-streaming pics like Code 8, set in a world where roughly 4% of the population is born with abilities. Alas, this circumstance is sadly not met with excitement by the majority of citizens who cower away from “Powers”, including Connor (Robbie Amell), a twentysomething labourer struggling to pay for his mother’s medical bills. He harnesses his electrokinetic powers and joins forces with a criminal gang, in order to raise the cash.

Arrowverse heroes and real-life cousins Robbie and Stephen Amell co-star, after having raised the financing for the film through Kickstarter. It’s their on-screen dynamic that truly sells it, with the older Amell playing the thuggish crook who enlists Connor. Writer-director Jeff Chan hardly has the type of budget typically tossed at superhero fare, yet this grittier take on an X-Men-esque world delivers plenty of compelling action sequences.

Outside the Wire

Anthony Mackie in Outside the Wire

Set in the near future, Outside the Wire centers around a civil war between pro-Russian insurgents and local resistances in Ukraine leads the US to deploy peacekeeping forces. It stars Anthony Mackie (who also produced the movie) as an android officer who works with a drone pilot, played by Damson Idris, to stop a global catastrophe. Emily Beecham, Michael Kelly, and Pilou Asbæk also star. The movie was directed by Swedish filmmaker Mikael Håfström, who’s also helmed thrillers like 2013’s Escape Plan starring Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Project Power

Dominique Fishback in Project Power

Another Netflix Original, Project Power stars Jamie Foxx, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Dominique Fishback. It follows a drug dealer (Fishback), a police officer (Gordon-Levitt), and a former soldier (Foxx) in a near-future New Orleans who team up to stop the distribution of a pill that gives the user superpowers for five minutes. The movie was directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, the duo behind Paranormal Activity 3 and Paranormal Activity 4. Colson Baker, Rodrigo Santoro, Amy Landecker, and Allen Maldonado also star.

Extraction

Extraction

Sinking $65 million dollars into its action spectacle Extraction, it’s no wonder Netflix chose to, as they say, go balls-to-the-wall on every front. Nabbing Chris Hemsworth for the lead was a masterstroke, but the big get aside from Thor is its director Sam Hargrave, who also happens to be an MCU stunt performer. Much like John Wick saw noted stunt genius Chad Stahelski take the reins as director for the first time, Hargrave gets that same chance to lens action the way a stuntman experiences it.

And that’s largely why the plot might not matter much. Who’s fussed about specifics when your director’s strapping himself into a car for a 12-minute take of a high-speed car chase? Granted, the story’s a decent enough tale of a sultry mercenary who accepts a job to locate the kidnapped son of an international crime lord, but it’s not going to change the face of cinema. Come for Hemsworth playing a slightly more serious role, and stay for the terrific action set pieces.

Beasts of No Nation

Beasts of No Nation

One of Netflix’s very first productions was a bold proposition indeed; a war movie in a fictional African country, performed for long stretches in Twi (a dialect of the Akan language spoken in Ghana), about a child soldier groomed for violence by a simultaneously terrifying and magnetic commandant. Beasts of No Nation plays out in just as bleak a manner as the premise suggests, leaving the viewer morally conflicted and emotionally exhausted.

In a movie that’s equal parts thrilling and harrowing, Idris Elba delivers an absolute masterclass in his role as the commandant. You watch him groom a child for war and perform several war crimes, and yet, somehow, you still find yourself wanting to root for him. And no less of a revelation is the young Abraham Attah as Agu.

Triple Frontier

Triple Frontier

Think of Triple Frontier as Ocean’s Eleven with a military slant. J.C Chandor directs from a script he co-wrote with Zero Dark Thirty’s Mark Boal for the testosterone movie of the year, that tells of a group of former Special Forces Operatives who band together to rob a noted cartel drug lord. It’s hardly new, plot-wise, but the movie brings out plenty of surprises beneath its pecs. Notably, its cast manages to venture into interesting territory with their characters, who find themselves in dire straits when a simple plan goes wrong.

Oscar Isaac leads as Santiago “Pope” Garcia, a DEA Agent who reunites his former team (Ben Affleck on top form, Charlie Hunnam, Pedro Pascal, and Garrett Hedlund) to carry out the heist, that undoubtedly doesn’t pan out the way they expect. Netflix struck gold with this winning combo of top-shelf A-listers, taut, precision scripting, and great action sequences that have your heart in your throat. One of the best action movies on Netflix, Triple Frontier packs equal amounts of brawn and brain and is eminently watchable.

The Debt Collector

The Debt COllector

Non-Netflix original available in US/UK

Several collaborations deep, and action champ Scott Adkins and director Jesse Johnson’s established rapport continues to, well, put Adkins into increasingly-hairy situations where the only way out is through… someone’s face. The pair typically ramp up the Guy Ritchie-esque British crime thriller template, yet this time they relocate to sunny Los Angeles where Adkins’ dedicated martial arts teacher French is struggling to keep his dojo open.

He quickly accepts a job as a debt collector that connects him with Sue, a former B-movie ninja expert, whose shabby aesthetic masks his thunderous desire to break people’s legs. Johnson and Adkins are in their element here. The stunt coordinator-turned director dispenses with scene-after-scene of action-comedy genius, clearly comfortable with both at this point in his career.

6 Underground

Ryan Reynolds in 6 Underground

Starring Ryan Reynolds and directed by Michael Bay, this movie follows a group of, you guessed it, six people. All of them are highly skilled and capable of taking down even the most untouchable of targets. Their aim this time round is a dictator in Turkistan, named Rovach Alimov.

Though this film didn’t do that well with critics, it’s still packed with action, and Reynolds’ performance as the lead character has been praised. 6 Underground is a great choice for a slice of explosive escapism, especially if you’re already a Bay fan.

Okja

Okja

A near-future sci-fi flick by Snowpiercer director Bong Joon-ho, this is exactly the type of Netflix Original the world needs: funny, weird, and utterly charming. Part environmental parable, part bleeding heart manifesto, the movie follows, Mija, a 10-year old whose best friend is a super-pig called Okja. When the lab that created her friend steal the swine away from her, Mija embarks on an adventure to retrieve Okja that takes her across the globe.

Unlike the brutal, bleak landscape of Snowpiecer, Okja showcases Joon-Ho’s softer side. It’s still oddball and wacky but packed with a ton of heart.  One of Netflix’s first movies that manages to juggle different ideas without losing sight of the goal; a real genre-blending effort. Oh, and Tilda Swinton. Anything that involves Tilda Swinton is worth watching.

The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf

The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf

A spin-off of The Witcher Netflix series, Nightmare of the Wolf serves as an origin story for Geralt’s (Henry Cavill) mentor and fellow witcher Vesemir,  voiced by Theo James. A servant on a nobleman’s estate, Vesemir longs to explore the Continent and find his destiny. Sherlock’s Lara Pulver is Tetra, a sorceress descended from one of the Continent’s first mages. She and her followers work to keep peace on the Continent by ensuring that magic is not abused. Graham McTavish voices warrior-leader Deglan, while Mary McDonnell is noblewoman Lady Zerbst.

Kwang Il Han directed the movie, while Beau DeMayo wrote the script, and The Witcher showrunner and executive producer Lauren Schmidt Hissrich is on board as a producer. Han is part of Studio Mir, who worked on the series The Legend of Korra, and DeMayo has also written and produced on the original Witcher series.

Top Gun 3 could be on the cards, according to Top Gun: Maverick actor Miles Teller – but it’s all up to leading man Tom Cruise.

“I’ve been having some conversations with him [Tom Cruise] about it,” Teller told Entertainment Tonight (opens in new tab). “We’ll see.” He added: “That would be great, but that’s all up to TC. It’s all up to Tom.”

Teller plays Lt. Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw in Top Gun: Maverick, the son of Goose (Anthony Edwards), Pete “Maverick” Mitchell (Cruise)’s best friend in the first Top Gun film. The movie also stars Jennifer Connolly, Jon Hamm, and Glen Powell and saw Joseph Kosinski take over the director’s chair. The sequel came 36 years after the original movie, so the fact that a threequel is already being discussed is good news for those of us with a need for even more speed.

Already the biggest movie of Cruise’s career, with his biggest debut both domestically and internationally, Top Gun: Maverick is now the first time one of the actor’s films has crossed the $1 billion mark.

As well as a potential threequel, Cruise also reportedly has the final say on how long Maverick stays on the big screen. Originally released on May 27, the theatrical window currently stands at 120 days. And, with such astronomical box office numbers, it’s no wonder Top Gun 2 seems here to stay in the multiplex.

If you’ve already seen Top Gun: Maverick, check out our guide to the rest of the biggest movie release dates coming our way in 2022.

The Monster Hunter Rise Twisted Stiffbone players can find in Sunbreak is an incredibly valuable crafting resource, an essential component for forging dozens of pieces of armor, weapons and more. Putting aside the slightly unfortunate name, the Twisted Stiffbone has numerous functions, and is perhaps most notable for being a part of the Protection Jewel, which grants players a massive damage reduction. However, the Stiffbone isn’t obtained from monsters you cut down, but instead found by exploring the world of Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak in a way we’ll explain below.

Twisted Stiffbone uses in crafting

Find Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak Purecrystal materials with out guide here!

The Twisted Stiffbone has a lot of crafting uses, hence the demand for finding them. Its recipes don’t require a lot of them, but there are a lot of recipes that need at least one, so sooner or later players find themselves running into this particular wall.

Unlike many other resources that came out in the DLC, such as the Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak Prized Pelts, the Stiffbone also is used to create a wide range of items. Some materials are limited purely to forging weapons, armor or decorations, but the Twisted Stiffbone is used to some degree in all three. We’ll cover everything you can make with them below, broken into categories.

  • Weapons
    • Wyvern Chaser+ (Light Bowgun) – 6
  • Weapon Upgrades
    • Kulu’s Lasher+ (Dual Blades) – 1
    • Wyvern Chaser+ (Light Bowgun) – 4
  • Armor
    • Arzuros Mail X (torso) – 1
    • Arzuros Greaves X (boots) – 1
    • Barbanias Belt (leggings) – 2
    • Bnahabra Boots X (boots) – 1
    • Bnahabra Hat X (helmet) – 2
    • Bnahabra Suit X (torso) – 1
    • Bone Coil X (leggings) – 2
    • Bone Greaves X (boots) – 2
    • Bone Helm X (helmet) – 2
    • Bone Mail X (torso) – 2
    • Bone Vambraces X (gauntlets) – 1
    • Hunter’s Greaves X (boots) – 2
    • Melahoa Branch X (gauntlets) – 2
    • Melahoa Jacket X (torso) – 2
    • Melahoa Roots X (boots) – 1
    • Regios Graves (boots) – 2
    • Scholarly Boots (boots) – 1
    • Scholarly Strongarm (gauntlets) – 1
    • Yukumo Sky Hakama (boots) – 2
    • Yukumo Sky Kasa (helmet) – 1
  • Decorations
    • Protection Jewel+ 4 (normal decoration) – 3

The main two standouts here are that the entire Bone X set is dependent on having nine separate Twisted Stiffbones, and the Protection Jewel is incredibly valuable, as equipping one will offer two separate levels of the Divine Blessing skill – aka, a permanent 30% protection buff! Slot that into any set to make it a viable contender for the Monster Hunter Rise best armor in your arsenal.

Keep in mind that there’s plenty more to be accessed from MH Rise Sunbreak beyond that, and even more hidden resources, such as the Transcendent Rhino in Monster Hunter Rise, which can be used to complete quests and to earn Kamura Points.

Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodhunt is getting a Team Deathmatch mode, a cheaper battle pass, and a brand-new approach to updates, according to a blog post shared by developer Sharkmob (opens in new tab)

GamesRadar+ also sat down with the studio to discuss the changes coming to the vampire-themed battle royale. Bloodhunt is “saying bye-bye to seasons” after discovering that the “cookie-cutter approach” didn’t fit well for the young studio, product director David Sirland says during our interview. Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodhunt launched in April of this year with a 100-tier, 12-week-long battle pass that costs about $10. The pass is cosmetics only, something Sharkmob promised would be the case back when we interviewed them last summer for the 2021 Future Games Show. The new battle pass will cost $5.99 or 600 tokens and won’t be tied to a specific season.

The upcoming Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodhunt update will also bring a brand new mode: 8v8 Team Deathmatch. The mode will take place on five different maps comprised of areas of the large battle royale map, with the first team to 50 kills getting the win. Timed universal ammo and loot spawns will help level the playing field. According to Sirland, the team wants the mode to offer new players a “place to practice the mechanics and get into all the nitty-gritty of using abilities and running on rooftops and shooting people,” and veteran players a great “warmup mode.”

After a few months of gameplay and feedback, Sharkmob also realized it wants to separate gameplay updates from content. “If something fails, everything gets delayed as well. And we realized the turnaround time if we missed the season, and the seasonal update with an important fix was 12 plus weeks, essentially, that doesn’t really cut it,” Sirland explains.

Sharkmob is targeting monthly updates for Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodhunt starting July 14, with a small hotfix patch following this summer update and a larger, gameplay-focused patch following that. The team is focusing on fixing a few major bugs they call “hydras” because they keep growing heads, like a frustrating reload bug and a problem with the red gas that closes in during every match syncing up with the game’s server, which resulted in players being harmed when seemingly not in the gas or not taking damage when standing in it.

If you’ve just started out the new game from Sharkmob, you can read up on our best Bloodhunt archetypes and classes guide for a helping hand.

The latest PS Plus Premium leak suggests Final Fantasy 7 Remake and several Assassin’s Creed games will be added to the service in July.

Some new games making their way to PS Plus Extra and Premium later this month might have been revealed ahead of time. As reported by Push Square (opens in new tab), ResetEra user BlackBate (opens in new tab) has revealed a bunch of titles that they claim are coming to Sony’s shiny new PS Plus service on July 19. The list includes various entries in the Assassin’s Creed series, such as Black Flag and The Ezio Collection. For RPG fans, there’s Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade and Episode Intermission – an extra chapter that’s set during the events of the main game and stars Yuffie Kisaragi.

According to BlackBate, these are the game’s coming to Sony’s subscription service:

  • Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade + FF7R Episode Intermission
  • Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag
  • Assassin’s Creed Unity
  • Assassin’s Creed Rogue Remastered
  • Assassin’s Creed Freedom Cry
  • Assassin’s Creed The Ezio Collection
  • Saints Row IV: Re-Elected

If this turns out to be true, these titles will arrive alongside Stray, the long-awaited platformer that sees you play as an adorable ginger cat looking for his family in a world overrun by robots. It’s also worth noting that BlackBate says that these are “some of the games,” suggesting that more will be added to the above line-up.

It’s best not to get too excited about the possible new additions until we have official confirmation from Sony, but BlackBate appears to be a reliable source, having previously accurately leaked information on Death Stranding Director’s Cut, Skull and Bones, and Microsoft Flight Simulator.

Sony rolled out its new PlayStation Plus service last month, which offers three membership tiers: Essential, Extra, and Premium. The Essential tier is basically the same as the old PS Plus service, while Extra members can enjoy up to 400 PS5 and PS4 games. Those opting for the top tier get access to a library of PS1, PS2, PS3, and PSP classics. This month’s regular PS Plus games include Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man of Medan, and Arcadegeddon.

There are a lot of great titles making their way to Sony’s new-gen console. Check them out in our guide to upcoming PS5 games.

The Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak Awegite material resource is a special ore used for crafting armor pieces, though can also be used as a fairly lucrative way to farm money, as Awegite happens to be a valuable material that can be sold at a tidy profit.  It’s found dotted about the Shrine Ruins, but even once you’re there, finding it will require some advance knowledge – and some preparation if you really want to farm it efficiently. For those reasons, we’ll explain how to get Awegite in MH Rise below, and even how to farm it.

It’s not clear at time of writing yet what the difference is between the Blue and White outcrops when it comes to the drop rates for Awegite (both are marked on the map above), but both can drop Awegite, similar to the Monster Hunter Rise Machalite Ore. We’ve had more luck getting it to spawn from blue drops over white ones, but we can’t say if that’s coincidental or not. Either way, you might as well shear through them all, just to be safe.

Awegite also has a slim chance of being dropped by the rare Rock-Tail Lizards when found in Master Rank quests, but considering the extreme rarity of Rock-Tail Lizards and their unpredictable spawning patterns, there’s no way to use this to your advantage when farming Awegite. Kill the Lizards if you see them, but if you need to get Awegite, using the outcrops is a far more reliable process.

Awegite is used for a lot of Sunbreak’s armor components, in particular the Kamura Legacy set and the associated weapons, but even if you’re not pursuing any gear in which Awegite is a component, it might be worth doing if only as an alternative to the Monster Hunter Rise Zenny farm, as Awegite is worth 1200 when sold and can be a decent way to quickly make money without any real danger.

Developer: Daedalic Entertainment
Publisher: Daedalic Entertainment
Release date: September 1, 2022

We are all so intrigued to see what a game where you play as the dual-personalities of The Lord of the Rings: Gollum will actually be like. And thankfully, that’s exactly what Daedalic Entertainment is going to give us. The creature starts out as a prisoner in Barad-dûr, a fortress in Mordor, but eventually, you will traverse more of Middle-Earth, with the developer promising “giant, persistent environments, each harbouring several questlines and a range of friendly or unfriendly faces” in an interview with Edge Magazine in early 2020. During that interview the game is also described as a “stealth-action-adventure with an intriguing dual-personality mechanic, gigantic levels, and a densely wrought aesthetic inspired by Tolkien’s own drawings”.

Publisher: Sony Interactive Entertainment
Release date: September 2, 2022

The Last of Us Part 1 is described as the definitive version of the original game, with updated visuals, facial animations, expanded accessibility options, improved combat, and more. In fact, Naughty Dog says it’s a true overhaul that will bring the journey that first introduced us to Ellie and Joel to the PS5 without “being encumbered by technology”. With a debut trailer at the Summer Game Fest, we’ve already seen glimpses of changes to the character models and more.

Overwatch 2

Overwatch 2

Developer: Blizzard
Publisher: Activision
Release date: October 4, 2022 (Early Access)

Overwatch 2 is now gunning for an October 4 early access release date – a fact confirmed during the Xbox and Bethesda Games showcase at E3 2022. There, we were treated to some new gameplay footage of the multiplayer team-based first-person shooter, and were likewise shown a new hero expected to make their debut at launch. Junker Queen, a character who’s long been rumored to enter the Overwatch fold, is indeed on their way to Overwatch 2 – packing a shotgun as their primary weapon, and a big two-handed axe as backup. As per the game’s initial reveal way back at BlizzCon 2019, Overwatch 2 is expected to lean heavier on its narrative elements by way of its new Story Missions.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns

Developer: Firaxis Games
Publisher: 2K Games
Release date: October 7, 2022

Firaxis is bringing us a new strategy game but this time it’s not a new XCOM. Instead, we’re getting a Marvel-themed strategy game called Marvel’s Midnight Suns. Teaming up with 12 of Marvel Comics’ iconic heroes in the roster, you play as The Hunter, the very first customizable character in Marvel history. Together you’ll attempt to take down the Mother of Demons, Lillith, in a XCOM / Marvel fusion gameplay scenario.

A Plague Tale: Requiem

Developer: Asobo Studio
Publisher: Focus Home Interactive
Release date: October 18, 2022

The Flight Simulator studio, Asobo, is going back to its original series with a sequel – A Plague Tale: Requiem. The game will follow the original heroes Amicia and Hugo in their quest to survive in the rat-infested city and The Inquisition. With literal seas of rats featured in the game’s reveal trailer, we can only imagine that things have got a lot harder for our brother and sister duo.

Gotham Knights

Gotham Knights

Developer: WB Games Montreal
Publisher: Warner Bros
Release date: October 25, 2022

The long-awaited WB Games Montreal title is Gotham Knights; an open-world, action RPG set in what the dev is calling the “most dynamic and interactive Gotham City yet”. The big story beat is that Batman is dead, leaving the Gotham Knights (Robin, Batgirl, Nightwing, and Red Hood) to protect the city from its full roster of bad guys. This is a completely original story for the upcoming PS5 games list, rather than any kind of re-enactment of the comics. In terms of villains, we know that the Court of Owls are at least involved, but others including Mr. Freeze will also play a part in the game’s narrative. It features drop-in, drop-out co-op too, with the kind of gameplay you’d expect to see from a Batman: Arkham title.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

Developer: Infinity Ward
Publisher: Activision
Release date: October 28, 2022

Task Force 141 from the 2019 reboot are back for a sequel in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. We’ll be back with Captain Price and co for a story that continues on from where we left them, with the looming threat of Victor Zakhaev and General Shepherd. Details are light right now, beyond those story details and a release date, so stay tuned.

God of War Ragnarok

God of War Ragnarok

Developer: Sony Santa Monica Studio
Publisher: Sony
Release date: November 9, 2022

Ragnarok is coming. Yes, a new God of War game is happening and it’s set to land on the PS5 (and PS4) at some point in 2022. During the latest PlayStation September 2021 showcase, we got a proper look at Kratos’ upcoming return in God of War: Ragnarok, and boy was it quite the trailer. The studio is made up of developers from Techland (Dying Light, Dead Island), The Farm 51 (Chernobylite), Bloober Team (Layers of Fear, Blair Witch), and Larian Studios (Divinity: Original Sin, Baldur’s Gate 3), so plenty of reputable talent is on board, making Forever Skies even more enticing.

Indiana Jones

Indiana Jones Bethesda game

Developer: MachineGames
Publisher: Lucasfilm Games / Bethesda
Release date: TBC

Bethesda studio MachineGames is working on a brand new Indiana Jones game, in conjunction with the newly established Lucasfilm Games. All we’ve had so far is a tiny teaser trailer, which is more matte painting than gameplay footage. But, from it, we’ve deduced that it’s probably set in Rome in 1937, which would place the game after Raiders of the Lost Ark and the Temple of Doom, and yet before The Last Crusade. It seems to involve ancient stone circles and standing stones, and potentially even a lost race of giant cyclops. Bethesda says we’ll be waiting a while for more info though – including 100% confirmation of whether it is on PS5, seeing as it’s a Bethesda game.

This is an RPG at its core too, filled with player choices, a strong narrative, and branching dialogue options too.

Release date: TBC

Another fresh title coming out of the new Lucasfilm Games, this is an open-world Star Wars title from Ubisoft’s Massive Entertainment. We don’t know much about the Ubisoft Star Wars game yet, as it’s clearly in very early stages of development, but it will run on Massive’s custom Snowdrop Engine. We’re expecting it to be a photorealistic action-adventure with sprinklings of RPG elements, a la The Division, but obviously set in Star Wars lore. No platforms have officially been confirmed, but expect it to be released on PS5 whenever it does arrive.

Elder Scrolls 6

Developer: Bethesda Game Studios
Publisher:
Bethesda
Release date: TBC

Ah, the Elder Scrolls 6 (opens in new tab). The 37-second trailer that blew the world’s mind at E3 2018. The game that we know nothing about beyond this same trailer, that is in development somewhere within Bethesda Game Studios along with Starfield. Because it is so far away from release, you can bet your bottom coin that it’s going to appear – at some point – on the PS5 (although hopefully not whatever the PS6 could be).

Dragon Age: Dreadwolf

Dragon Age 4

Developer: BioWare

Although technically no platforms have been announced for Dragon Age 4 – or whatever the next Dragon Age is officially called – at this point it would seem odd not to think of it as an upcoming PS5 game. We may not have a release date yet, but at least we know that Solas and co are making a return at some point in the future. What we have seen is some glorious concept art, and the confirmation that it will continue on from where Dragon Age: Inquisition left off.

New Mass Effect

Developer: BioWare

It might be quite a way off release, but that isn’t going to stop us being ridiculously overexcited for a brand new Mass Effect game – aka Mass Effect 5. Seemingly picking up after the events of Mass Effect 3, we’ll be seeing some old faces return and some plot lines picked back up. Of course, the big question of whether Shepard will return remains, but we’re ready for everything.

Atomic Heart

Developer: Mundfish
Publisher:
 Mundfish
Release date: TBC

Horror fans should rejoice to hear that Mundfish is bringing Atomic Heart to next-gen consoles. The wild-looking sci-fi horror game only rears its grotesque head every so often, but when it does, the world collectively gasps with shock and intrigue. Its monsters are unforgettable, we’ve already seen a good range of unique alien weapons, and the story already has us asking more questions than we have answers. Atomic Heart looks incredibly ambitious for a smaller studio, and we can’t wait to see if it lands the jump on PS5.
