Picking the Outer Worlds best guns isn’t easy – there’s a lot of them, a lot to them, and some of them are just… odd, science weapons that defy any kind of sense. You’ll need to know the best weapons though, as surviving in these crazy colonies will require being very well armed indeed. We’ve been gunning through the game though, and we’ve laid out all the Outer Worlds best guns options.

The Outer Worlds tips (opens in new tab) | The Outer Worlds companions (opens in new tab) | The Outer Worlds  Science Weapons (opens in new tab) | The Outer Worlds Slaughterhouse Clive (opens in new tab) | The Outer Worlds best guns (opens in new tab) | Outer Worlds Edgewater or Deserters | Give the Outer Worlds Targeting Module to Graham or Sanjar? | The Outer Worlds build guide

It’s also worth adding in a quick disclaimer about how weapons work in The Outer Worlds. Standard guns have basic names like “Assault Rifle”, “Light Machine Gun”, “Tactical Shotgun”, etc. You can find these in droves and when looking at your inventory screen, they’re on a standard black background. As you get further into the game, you’ll come across improved versions of the base weapons, indicated by things like “Mk2” and “Ultra” in the name.

Unique weapons will have special names and descriptions, and they’ll feature a gold icon behind them. These are usually slightly more powerful than their standard counterparts, although keep an eye on the weapon level and damage because you’ll outgrow the early ones eventually.

Finally, the Science weapons have a blue background, and there’s only five of them in the entire game. These have unique effects, and you’ll need to complete the Weapons from the Void quest to obtain them all. Since they’re so unique, we won’t be covering them in this guide, but we have a dedicated The Outer Worlds Science weapons guide that goes into detail on how to get each one.

Assault Rifle

The Outer Worlds best weapons Assault Rifle

Perhaps my favourite weapon in the entire game is the bog standard Assault Rifle. It uses Heavy ammo and has 24 bullets in a magazine, with each one dealing significant damage. You can install a barrel, magazine, and sight mod to it, and it staggers enemies.

When you make it to the C3 base near Devil’s Peak on Monarch, you can find the unique Assault Rifle called Thunder lying on the table inside the building. This does shock damage and carried me through to the end of the game.

Plasma Cutter

The Outer Worlds best weapons Plasma Cutter

When it comes to the best melee weapons in The Outer Worlds, the Plasma Cutter wins by a long shot. This one-handed melee sword can be swung rapidly and as you’d expect, it deals some severe Plasma damage. You can attach both a Grip and Attack mod too, which makes the Plasma Cutter one of the best melee weapons to use throughout the game.

Tactical Shotgun

The Outer Worlds best weapons: Tactical Shotgun

For those times you need to get up close and personal, the Tactical Shotgun is your friend. This is perfect for when you’ve got Mantisaurs or melee Marauders getting all up in your business, especially if you enable Time-Dilation and hit a few weak spots. You can install both a Barrel and Magazine mod to spruce it up even further.

Flamethrower

The Outer Worlds best weapons Flamethrower

If you find yourself with a surplus of Energy ammo, get a Flamethrower out. It deals severe burn damage, as you’d expect, and is perfect for emitting continuous damage at multiple enemies at once. You can also install a Magazine mod to make it burn enemies and deal a specific type of damage like Shock or Corrosion.

Light Machine Gun

The Outer Worlds best weapons Light Machine Gun

Our final choice for the list of the best Outer Worlds weapons is the Light Machine Gun. Chances are, you’ll have a huge amount of Light ammo because Heavy and Energy seem to be harder to find. If that’s the case, whip out a Light Machine Gun and spray to your heart’s content at enemies, because you’ll start burning through your excess ammo in no time at all.

Ghost Recon Breakpoint’s best guns are pretty varied, and with a lot of guns to choose from, it’s worth knowing your pea-shooters from your power-beams. Not to mention that all the looter-shooter mechanics can make things a little more confusing on top of that – so how to tell the best Ghost Recon Breakpoint guns from each other? It’s not easy because of how many guns there are in the game, so we’re here to fill you in on what you need to know. From working out which gun is most suitable for you to some of our best Ghost Recon Breakpoint guns, we’ve got it all covered in our guide below.

How to choose the best Ghost Recon Breakpoint guns

It’s easy to build a comparable loadout with almost anything you can find while looting, so don’t worry if you’re using a less-than-ideal weapon. Cater your weapons to your playstyle. If you prefer to lay down cover fire to help your squad escape? Grab that light machine gun. Looking for the ultimate close quarters combat setup? Pick up a couple of submachine guns.

I prefer to have a diversified set of cannons, including one assault rifle or submachine gun alongside a sniper rifle that can handle long distances. Grenades help me with any tricky situations the first two don’t cover.

Finding guns in Ghost Recon: Breakpoint is simple; you’ll come across them in chests and on the bodies of slain enemies. You can craft weapons once you find their specific blueprint, either from side missions or intel you find from strangers and electronics scattered across the map. Bear in mind that you can hold two primary weapons at a time alongside one pistol.

Best Ghost Recon Breakpoint guns

TAC50

Ghost Recon Breakpoint guns: TAC50

The TAC50 is a great rifle to use while scouting around an enemy base, marking enemies and locations of interest before heading into a battle. It’s powerful enough to level an enemy soldier with a single shot, even when suppressed, and it’s got incredible range. It’s perfect for solo playthroughs too as you can clear part of a base without even stepping inside. Make sure to have something suitable for close range if you go with this one, though.

SC-20K

Ghost Recon Breakpoint guns: SC-20K

The SC-20K is perfect for a fast moving commando who prefers to methodically infiltrate a compound room by room. You can hug corners quickly and take out anyone you find instantaneously. It has a bit of recoil but nothing you can’t handle, and the spray is deadly. It also has a healthy cartridge size when you first pick it up but like every other weapon, I use a suppressor with it. Stealth is crucial.

TAVOR

Ghost Recon Breakpoint guns: TAVOR

The TAVOR is all about stability, close-to-medium range shots with a steady hand. It has little-to-no recoil, works perfect with a laser sight, and has great firepower. This is the gun that has felt the best with the Breakpoint camera changes that have you go from third to first person whenever you look down your sights. It’s gotten me out of most of my close shave gunfights.

G28

Ghost Recon Breakpoint guns: G28

The G28 is a great mid range weapon, perfect for surrounding an outlet of enemies with your squad, marking your target, and taking them out from a safe distance. It can hold its own at distance, but is perfect for hunkering down inside a two story office building as waves of enemies approach your position.

AK47

Ghost Recon Breakpoint guns: AK47

The AK47 is well-known for a reason and it’s just as reliable in Breakpoint as you’ll find in other game. You can find the AK47 blueprint in the Behemoth Defense Area and from random points of intel you may find during missions.

All guns in Breakpoint are viable in both multiplayer and singleplayer. If some element of a weapon is lacking, like the recoil or mobility, then you can work to improve that with the gunsmith. Apply stat boosts, add better equipment, and increase the overall level of your weapon. You’ll also find different versions of the same weapon with better stats, so be sure to upgrade when you can.

For Sea of Thieves players, a skull cloud appearing in the sky means one of two things. For the combat-averse, it means avoid the area, just totally steer clear. But for the more daring, gold-motivated pirates, a skull means it’s time to fight for a massive bounty. Each skull cloud hangs over a fortress, which hosts the Sea of Thieves (opens in new tab) raids. Whether you’re wondering how many rounds it takes to get to the boss or how to best fend off attacking players looking to cash in on your hard work, here’s what you need to know about skull clouds, skeleton forts, and those precious fort keys.

Sea of Thieves tips (opens in new tab) | Sea of Thieves update (opens in new tab) | How to fish in Sea of Thieves (opens in new tab) | Sea of Thieves Tall Tales (opens in new tab) | Sea of Thieves animal locations (opens in new tab) | Sea of Thieves pirate legend guide (opens in new tab) | Sea of Thieves gold guide (opens in new tab) | How to defeat a Sea of Thieves kraken (opens in new tab) | Sea of Thieves Gold Hoarders guide (opens in new tab) | Sea of Thieves Merchant Alliance guide (opens in new tab) | Sea of Thieves Order of Souls mission guide (opens in new tab)

The Skull Cloud

Let’s get the obvious bit out of the way first: when you see the skull cloud, sail towards it. Underneath is a skeleton fort, manned by (surprise surprise) skeletons, who are in turn manning cannons. They’re very accurate, so make sure your best sailor is manning the steering wheel as you want to avoid as many of their cannon balls as possible. Don’t be scared if there are other players’ ship waiting when you cast anchor: you should all team up together to take on the waves of skeletons that will soon be inching your way. In fact, if the eyes are intermittently blinking red it means that another crew is currently battling through the fortress to get to the sweet loot inside, so you might want to give them a hand.

Taking on the Skeleton Fort

When you land on the island, you’ll be met by a not-so-friendly horde of skeletons. Fight off the first wave with your friends (we really don’t recommend going in alone), then stock up on bananas and ammo before the next onslaught starts. You’ll know when the next wave is about to strike because a horn will be sounded when it’s near.

There are around 10 to 20 waves of skeleton enemies, depending on the size of the fortress you’re attacking. And what makes it even more… fun… is that you’ll face different types of skeletons. The normal ones are white, with blue headbands on. But then there are green, leafy ones that regenerate health in the water. Grey ones that are weakened by the sunlight or the light from your lantern. And gold ones that can’t be attacked unless you douse them in water, or lure them into the shallows.

Eventually a skeleton captain will turn up. Defeat it, and grab the skeleton fort key that it drops. It’s also known as a stronghold key, so don’t panic if it isn’t described in the same way. Now you can get into the Cursed Island treasure room. Plenty of skeletons will try and prevent your progress, so make sure you tackle it in a sizeable group so one of you can ferry the treasure back to your ship while someone else defends you.

Oh, and other crews can and will steal your treasure if you give them the chance, even if you’ve killed all those skeletons yourself. So keep an eye out for those salty sea dogs.

As soon as you reach the White House, one of the first things you’ll spot inside is likely the crate that requires eight Division 2 Ivory Keys to unlock. So what are Ivory Keys in The Division 2 (opens in new tab), I hear you ask? Put simply, you earn them by killing 12 optional bosses called Hunters. Each one has a cryptic riddle you need to solve, so if you’re struggling, read on for everything you need to know about Division 2 Ivory Keys.

Division 2 tips (opens in new tab) | Best Division 2 skills (opens in new tab) | Best Division 2 perks (opens in new tab) | Division 2 Hyena Key locations (opens in new tab) | Division 2 Dark Zone Keys (opens in new tab) | How to level up fast in The Division 2 (opens in new tab) | Division 2 masks (opens in new tab) | Division 2 Ivory Keys (opens in new tab) | Division 2 Dark Zone guide (opens in new tab) | How to unlock the Dark Zone in The Division 2 (opens in new tab) | Division 2 crafting guide (opens in new tab) | Division 2 specializations (opens in new tab) | How to unlock specializations in The Division 2 (opens in new tab) | Division 2 dyes (opens in new tab) | Division 2 mods (opens in new tab) | Division 2 map (opens in new tab) | Division 2 printer filament (opens in new tab) | Division 2 bounties (opens in new tab) | Division 2 builds (opens in new tab) | Division 2 Snitch Cards (opens in new tab) | Division 2 hidden side missions (opens in new tab) | Division 2 Exotics (opens in new tab) | Division 2 endgame (opens in new tab)

What are Ivory Keys used for in The Division 2?

The Division 2 Ivory Chest

If you’ve got your hands on an Ivory Key but you’re not sure what it can be used for, worry not. The Ivory Keys are used to unlock the box in the White House pictured above. It requires eight of them to open in total, and we do know what’s inside the locked box but we’ll leave that till the end of the guide so we don’t spoil it.

To find this locked box, enter through the main White House entrance, walk past the Quartermaster and Vendor, then take a right. This is where the Barber will be once you get him, and it’s also where you can find the locked box, on a small table.

How to get Ivory Keys in The Division 2

Actually obtaining eight Ivory Keys to unlock this box full of wonder is easier said than done. You have to take down Hunters, which are level 35 secret bosses and nigh-on impossible to find without a guide. As I write this, there’s a lot of confusion around how to obtain all eight Ivory Keys, so I’ll attempt to shed some light on the situation.

Before the first major Division 2 patch on launch day (Friday, March 15), it was possible to obtain eight Ivory Keys by jumping into another person’s game and killing the Hunters that you’d already killed in your own game. This meant that you could farm the same few Hunters multiple times, and earn eight Ivory Keys that way. This method has since been patched out.

Killing Hunters in somebody else’s game will not reward you with an Ivory Key – although you will get other high-end loot – so you have to kill eight different Hunters in your game. While there’s 12 Hunters you have to kill to obtain all 12 masks, only one Ivory Key will drop per encounter for a total of eight.

Which Hunters do I need to kill to get Ivory Keys?

The Division 2 Wraith Hunter

We’ve covered how to kill all 12 hunters in our guide to the Division 2 masks (opens in new tab), and doing so will reward you with eight Ivory Keys. Only the final hunter you kill from the Midas/Revenant and Death/Phantom/Cross/Diamond encounters will drop an Ivory Key.

If it’s your first time taking down the hunters, no matter who the leader of the group is, you should get an Ivory Key. There’s still some confusion surrounding this though so if anybody in your group doesn’t get one Ivory Key for each hunter encounter, that player needs to invite all the players to their group then kill the hunter again.

What do you get in the box that needs eight Ivory Keys?

Of course, obtaining eight Ivory Keys in The Division 2 isn’t really worth it if the rewards are naff. If you want to find out the contents of the box, take a look at the image below. If you don’t, we’d recommend scrolling back up the page!

The Division 2 Ivory Chest rewards

You’ll be able to get your hands on the Shield Splinterer – F2000 assault rifle. We recommend waiting until World Tier 5 before opening it, so you receive it at the highest gear score possible. You’ll also obtain a white weapon skin, and the Hunter’s Axe backpack trophy. If you use assault rifles then this F2000 is more than worth it, but if not… it’s still cool to keep in your stash.

Are you completely lost with this and still getting started with The Division 2? Check out our guide to The Division 2 tips (opens in new tab), straight from the developers themselves.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses (opens in new tab) New Game Plus is a very useful feature for anyone who wants to start another play-through. As you dive into Fire Emblem: Three Houses, the very first choice you make is which house to join. Naturally, this means that eventually you’ll probably want to start another play-through to experience each different route you can take, and get to know all of the other characters you didn’t meet the first time around. Once you’ve finished one campaign to completion, the New Game Plus feature will unlock – giving you access to various perks for your new run.

Be aware, some spoilers for Fire Emblem: Three Hours follow below, but they have little to do with the story or characters. So without further ado, we’ve put together a helpful guide that covers everything you need to know about Fire Emblem: Three Houses New Game Plus.

You get to keep some Progress

As you go through the first playthrough you’ll unlock unique battalions, gain special skill experience from saint statues in the monastery, and get access to new items in the shop. You can choose to retain all of this in your second playthrough, meaning you’ll start off with quite the advantage if you want it.

You’re also free to ignore some of these bonuses to retain the challenge from the original run. The real perk here is the ability to skip some of the Persona stuff while still getting the benefits of it. That’s not to say the Persona elements of Three Houses aren’t fun, they are just time consuming.

Use renown to quickly level up

Renown points are gained through completing missions and other tasks for characters during free time and after battles. They can be used to level up saint-statues hidden in the corner of the monastery. Those statues give you bonus points for all kinds of different skills including bow, lance, axe, and sword usage. There are four different statues that can be levelled up as you play.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses New Game Plus lets you keep the saint-statue level you had in the previous play through. That frees up the renown points you gain in the second playthrough for other purposes. You can use them to upgrade your professor level, skill levels for any of your soldiers, and unlock combat arts and new classes all without stepping foot on the battlefield.

It feels incredibly cheap but makes experimentation with new classes, relationship building with various characters, and a number of other things that would take a lot of time in a regular play through much easier. Once you’ve unlocked New Game + just head over to your journal in your room to get started.

Customize your army’s appearance

As anyone who’s seen some marketing for Fire Emblem: Three Houses knows, there is a five-year time jump in the middle of the game. Afterwards all student characters will have new portrait art and 3D models that reflect their time at war.

Most characters are more grizzled and grown up. It completely changed how I looked at them. Fire Emblem: Three Houses New Game Plus lets you customize your characters appearance freely. The only additional costumes and hair options that are available at the start are their models from after the time jump. So you can have your squad look at war torn and weathered while walking between classes at the monastery.

More may be unlockable and I’m sure Nintendo and Intelligent Systems will add more post launch.

Gain more renown

Renown, which is used to unlock all sorts of goodness in a Fire Emblem: Three Houses New Game Plus run, is earned in small increments by completing missions and winning battles during your first play through. You’ll get to earn more during your second playthrough as a “special perk” for completing the game.

Unlock new crest powers

Crests are a big element in Fire Emblem: Three Houses story. They are magical essences past down through bloodlines that offer holders special powers. Dimitri, head of the Blue Lion house for example, has a crest that occasionally doubles his attack and weapon uses for Combat Arts.

A New Game+ gives you the option to purchase special Crest Powers with renown points based off your decisions in your first play through. You can then assign them to your team to give each unit a special bonus. Most credits signs cost around 1000 renown points.

Space is big, and lonely. So knowing which of the Outer Worlds companions you should take with you is important. There are six in total that you can meet and bring into your crew. They all have different special abilities in combat and passive buffs that can help you. As well as a backstory and personal mission to keep you busy. But who’s best at what? Where are they and who should you actually take with you on missions.

You’re only allowed to take two Outer Worlds companions with you at any one time so you want to make sure you make the right choice. How you want to approach a mission, or the actual mission itself could mean swapping out faves to get bonuses and advantages. Some will help with shooting, others are better at more stealthy activities like lockpicking and hacking, while some can make conversations easier.

So, if you want to staff up The Unreliable, and know who to take when, here are all of The Outer Worlds companions and where to find them.

Parvati

The first companion you can get in The Outer Worlds is Parvati, who you’ll find in Edgewater on Terra-2. The first time you head up to speak with Reed Tobson as part of the main quest, Parvati is in a debate with Tobson about fixing something before your arrival interrupts them. Listen to what Tobson has to say and Parvati will offer to accompany you, at which point you can accept or decline.

Skills

  • Persuade
  • Lockpick
  • Engineering

Ability

Overload: Parvati slams down her hammer creating a blast wave that shocks enemies and stuns automechanicals [Outer World’s name for robots].

Vicar Max

The Outer Worlds companions: Vicar Max

Vicar Max is the head of the church in Edgewater, and he wants you to help him find a book. Once you’ve got Parvati in your party (which is a very satisfying rhyme), the two will have an interesting conversation, and you can decide whether to bring Vicar Max along for the ride or not.

Skills

  • Intimidate
  • Hack
  • Science

Ability

Trickshot: Max examines and evaluates his target and spiritually enlightens them with a blast from his shotgun.

Sam

The Outer Worlds companions: Sam

Sam is a friendly janitor robot you can find already aboard The Unreliable on the top floor, inside a small closet. Interacting with the sleeping automechanical will lead you on the quest called The Cleaning Machine, in which you have to find an Acid Steeper to get Sam up and running again.

Skills

  • Intimidate
  • Hack
  • Science

Ability

Decontaminate: Sam jumps in the air and slams down near his target spewing out caustic cleaning fluids all around to get out those really tough stains.

Felix

The Outer Worlds companions: Felix

When you dock at the Groundbreaker for the first time, the first group of people you’ll come across include Felix arguing with a Corporate Trooper outside of Customs. Speak with him and he’ll eventually apologise for taking up your time, so venture into Groundbreaker and carry on with your exploration. When you go past him again, enter conversation and you’ll be able to acquire his services.

Skills

  • Persuade
  • Sneak
  • Lockpick

Ability

Dropkick: Felix charges his target, leaps into the air and slams into the target with both feet.

Ellie

The Outer Worlds companions: Ellie

Inside Groundbreaker, you’ll find the Medbay. This is where you can find Ellie arguing with one Dr. Mfuru about a patient, Jessie, and how Ellie wants to be able to see her but she isn’t permitted into the quarantined zone. As you’d expect, you can offer to sort out Ellie’s problem for her, which you need to do by acquiring a Mardet ID cartridge and disguising yourself in the restricted area. Complete the quest, which also involves speaking with Udom Bedford, and you’ll be able to have Ellie tag along when finished.

Skills

  • Lie
  • Medical
  • Engineering

Ability

Quick Draw: Ellie quickly draws her pistol and fires off a series of precision shots at her target.

Nyoka

The Outer Worlds companions: Nyoka

When you eventually make it to Monarch, you can grab the sixth and final companion, Nyoka. She’s inside the bar directly in front of you when you descend from the landing pad in Stellar Bay, and speaking to her sends you on a quest to get some pills for her. Return with the “medicine” she requires and she’ll be your tour guide on Monarch, then follow you wherever else you go.

Skills

  • Lie
  • Sneak
  • Medical

Ability

Barrage: Nyoka uses her personally modified LMG to deal damage to her target and set enemies near it ablaze.
